A Room with a View(Rome)

I am looking for a room with a view in Rome and in Florence. I am looking for recommendations for a cheap room with bathroom (with beautiful view, and possibly where one can hear the chiming of the bells).

Thanks!

I'm not sure you'll get any better results starting so many new posts. Most people just "top" their own, by adding questions to their original thread. This way all the information ends up together rather than scattered all over the BB. Sorry I can't help with Rome or Florence hotels in the 40-60 Euro category. My instinct is that charming with a private bathroom and view in this price range is asking the impossible (but hopefully I'll be proved wrong).

Another idea, if you haven't tried this already... you might read &/or post over on The Thorn Tree BB at www.lonelyplanet.com since you're looking for an extremely budget priced room. There are many more posters there who travel on the very cheap, than you'll find here on Fodors.

The reason why no one will respond to your threads, dear, is because there is no resposne to your question other than "it doesn't exist!"

Believe me, if a charming room with a view existed in both cities in your price range, you'd have to book five years in advance to get it.

Add another $100 to your per-night budget and maybe somebody will help you.

Any room I have stayed in , with a view is way out of the "cheap" range, BUT, a friend of mine is taking her 3 children to rome and florence next week, and the place in florence is cheap, looks OK, and has a great view

I just took a quick spin on the net (search "Rome Hotels&quot... The only things I found anywhere near that cheap were hostels or dormitories with shared facilities. You can see some of the lower priced options (but none as cheap or charming as you want) at:

www.centralromehotels.com
www.roma-hotels.com

to get a more realistic picture of what's available.

In Florence, try Hotel Alessandra. We had a room with bell tower just outside the window (bells only rang 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and the view was of the river. We had a quad for about $200, so single or double should be reasonable, at least.
