At his best in Rome. Where are you "at your best"?

At my best? Easy: in Paris on a rainy April afternoon in a huge bed with silk sheets next to someone I love with a good bottle of wine and Vivaldi's The Four Season's playing.

At a football game in Pittsburgh screaming my lungs out for the Steelers, holding a IC Light.

I think I'm at my best around people, whether real or armchair travllers, who are genuine and honest, and able at times to think of others.

at my best when I am barbecuing with my wife and friends in the backyard, The Moody Blues or Frank Sinatra blaring on the outdoor speakers (damn, I am getting old) and a mai tai, margarita, martini or Pelligrino water not too far from my reach.

In the context of travel, I am at my best (don't laugh here)...on an airplane.

Outbound--full of anticipation and excitement about where I'm going, whether it be a new spot or an old favorite. Inbound--full of contentment and relaxation, and happy to be heading home.

Rome or Paris, but I must be in comfy shoes!

On the ski slopes or on hiking trails!

Santorini. Floating on my back in the sea, just near the rock down from Oia. The island is looming above me, the sun is scorching. I'm going back there this summer with my true love. I want my ashes scattered there.

Otherwise, on most other hot, sunny holidays, I feel at my best after a day on the beach and after the shower I have when I get back. After applying some after-sun moisturiser and checking the colour on my face, I'm ready for anything!!

At home with the kids he may be a little testy sometimes... but in Amsterdam with a suite overlooking the Leidesplein... a superb time was had.
