Hi, I just want to add that I agree on not going on a weekend. That is when the locals travel there for the day.

Sea Urchin: I will do the Capri trip on a weekday. Unfortunately, there is a long holiday weekend at the end of the week I will be there (next week, with May 1 falling on Thursday). So I will see if we can do the Capri trip on the Wednesday, and an Paestum/Cetara/Vietri day trip on Tuesday. (We arrive in Amalfi on Sunday)

Hmmm you arrive this Sunday the 27th? You may find all of next week busy, the Italians like to extend their holidays.

I can't believe you are ready to leave, seems like "we've" been planning your trip for so long!!

Can you do Capri on Monday? and Pasteum on Tuesday? They may be less crowded on those days. We really did notice the difference when we visted Capri on a weekend, it took so long for the funicular and also for the bus line down by the docks. Maybe you could grab one of those neat convertible cabs, so 60's!!

Well, just have fun and go with the flow and toast me with some vino or limoncello!!! Waaaaa, take me with you....

Cool sandals! Yes, I am finally getting ready to leave. SeaUrchin, you have been a tremendous help in planning! I will try to do Capri on Monday if possible..sometimes we have trouble getting started on the first morning after the flight but will do my best to rouse the lazier member of the team. We should be able to make that 9:30 boat from Amalfi..

We will definitely raise a toast!! Or three!! Many thanks..

You could spend half a day and finish your trip report on the Asia forum.

eks - did you write a trip report for this visit to the Amalfi coast? I would very much like to know what you decided - to Capri or not to Capri. My HB and parents will be going in July and are planning a day trip to Capri. Any tips you have would greatly be appreciated. I was also checking on different websites to see which day (if any) the least amount of cruise ships visit.

I did not do that day trip; we were really too busy on the actual Amalfi Coast. But I am thinking about doing a Capri day trip when I go to Ischia this year..

Here is that report, from last spring:

I re-read this thread and am now wondering about an overnight in Capri. Has anyone here stayed at Da Gelsomina, mentioned above? Would that be too inconvenient a location for a one-night stay?

Thanks, Apple! I liked the idea of Da Gelsomina because it is near AnaCapri and thus seems to be out of the tourist crush. AND they have a reportedly great view, good restaurant and a pool!

I just wondered about going up there for just one night, carrying luggage... (??)

Here is the website, so maybe the location will be more clear:

I will take a look, too, at the Minerva! Thanks again!

Eks - The website says it's 20 mins walk from Anacapri centre. But it says there's a shuttle service to/from the port - so carrying luggage shouldn't be an issue.

Many thanks, Steve! I am toying with the idea of overnighting in Capri after Ischia...and then moving on to Vico Equense...I do not like to move about so much with only one week, but.....
This would, of course, cut down my time on Ischia....

If I felt safe getting to the airport from Capri in time for a flight about noon, I would do an Ischia-Capri week, but from all reports, this is not a good idea. What do you think? Chances of ferry cancellation (Capri-Naples) in September?

More decisions!

From my experience, Eks, the chances of ferry cancellation in September from Capri or Ischia are minimal.

[I've seen it happen occasionally in October in Positano - but the main problem in Positano is no deep-water harbour].

The Capri and Ischia ferries are much bigger (- and both Sorrento and Naples have deep-water harbours) - so the likelihood of cancellation is much smaller. Perhaps I've been lucky, but I've never had rough weather there in September.

Personally I'd take the risk ... and spend the last night or two in Capri. But that's just me ...
