Rome apartment agency

Has anyone had recent experience dealing with 'rentalinrome'?

They have an excellent web site and what appear to be reasonable rates for nice properties. But are the rates posted 'all-inclusive' or are there additional costs? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I looked at several rental agencies and the only extra charge I found was a final cleaning charge. It is included in some of the prices quoted and the other times it said - "cleaning charge" and listed it separately. Usually about 45 Euros. I had a bad experience with one agency and now I'm alot more educated about how many of these agencies work. You will see the same apartment listed on multiple agencies under different apartment names. Prices may be different also. I had originally thought that one agency had an exclusive on the apartments they listed but many of them don't. I think that's one of the reasons why you have to wait for availability. They have to check with the owners if they are available because another agency may have a hold on that particular apartment. With the 9 hour time difference between here (Las Vegas) and Rome, I would have to wait 24 hours or longer to hear a reply. I dealt with Isaac at Rental in Rome (didn't rent from that agency though) and I had no problem with him. I am going to Rome in November so I can't comment about using an agency for the whole process - all I know about is trying to find an apartment. I did end up renting from Romeby.com and the advantage of them is that they will refund you deposit if you cancel your trip within so many days. The other agencies appear not to refund your 20% deposit for any reason. I have used them in the past (Londonby.com) and had no problem with them or my room.

blondiepopo, how was renting from Romeby.com? I too like the fact that their deposit is refundable. SleepinItaly also offers the same Monte di Pieta apt that we are considering & I know they are highly recommended but I would rather go with Romeby.com because of the refundable deposit. How was your experience with them? Did they come on time, etc?

I posted about this company on another recent post but I will repost it here...

I rented from them December of 2007 for 8 days. I was not happy at all with the service. There was no toilet paper, a broken window in DECEMBER, no fuel for the heater, mold growing in the bathroom, the linens for the bed did not seem to be clean, and we used their car service to and from the airport and they scammed us out of more money. They promise their people are English speaking but do not count on this. The lady that met us for the apartment did not know English at all. We were also told that our apartment was very very quiet but instead it was very very very noisy with a cafe right underneath us.

Once back in the states and even with all the complaints and I had photos to prove everything...we could not get anyone from the agency to contact us back. I still have the photos if you would like to see them.

I would seriously rethink using this agency.

You might find it better to work directly with an apartment owner. The agencies frequently mark the prices up enormously and some of them really have no knowledge of the apartment nor a great deal of interest in the customers. An owner will likely be more forthright and will have his own conditions regarding deposit refund on his own website - here's an example of owner-direct in Rome (a suite rather than a complete apartment, evidently): http://www.apartment-saint-peters.com/ The web site is unsophisticated but it's quite up-front.

Regarding this "final cleaning" thing - it's very Italian and quite common, and of course it favours longer stays since you pay it only once. I guess if it's not stated separately, they somehow factor it into the price of shorter stays.

With owner-direct, be patient when it comes to responses - most of these people have one or two other jobs and don't spend all of their time in front of a PC answering email (in a foreign language).

realrome.com is another good agency. I rented an apartment over the holidays and was very pleased with everything. Tim Pearson is name of the owner/manager and he is wonderful to work with. I learned about realrome from other posters who also had good experiences.

Over the years I've used realrome.com, rentalinrome.com (slammed above, but we had no problems!), cross-pollinate.com and Underground Viaggi, which I think has changed its name. I liked all of these and didn't experience "hidden costs" or anything with any of them.

I also didn't have problems with any of these agencies, though in each case I did my due diligence and checked references not just for the agency but the individual apartments.

On November 2007, we have rented a very nice apartment in Navona Square area through www.rome-accommodation.net agency. On September 2008 we came back to Rome, we rented again with them. I can recommend this agency without problem. Price are always ALL INCLUSIVE: bath and bed linen, initial and final cleaning, taxes, electricity, etc. No extra charges wat all, which was really comfortable! No problem for communicating, they answer within 24 hours. We use to rent their drop off service from the airport: very modern and luxury Mercedes to take us directly to the apartment. The flat is clean and well equipped. No problem at all with this agency. Las time, they even allow us leave our luggages in the apart because had our flight late evening. We had the opportunity to visit them in the agency located near to the Pantheon, so I can confirm their serious and professionalism.

We used www.romepower.com in Sept 2007 and had no problems with them. They are recommended on www.slowtrav.com as well.

I used rentalinrome last year. We rented the Monserrato apartment which is above Pierluigi's Ristorante. The transaction went very smooth and there were no additional costs. Even air conditioning was included. I would definately use them again. And I would DEFINATELY rent the Monserrato apartment again. We loved it and we loved Pierluigi's.

I have used sleepinitaly and had much success. They are very helpful. My first apartment had alot of problems and they offered us another place to stay during our vacation but we were too settled at that point to move so they did give us back some money. That apartment is no longer offered by them. When I rented with them last November they were so pleased I gave them another chance that they gave me a discount and I rented a great apartment. They were also very helpful when we needed assistance getting my daughters computer to connect to the WIFI. I am renting again from them next month...hoping it will all be good.
