7 hours Heathrow
Having been cursed by the bad-connection fairy I find myself with 7 hours in Heathrow awaiting a flight out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fill in the time? I have seen the main sights in London, and not really sure if it is worthwhile going into the city just to spend a few hours there and come back. Is there anything interesting to see/do a bit closer to the airport? I will be coming off a very long flight so not looking for anything too taxing, but luckily won't have luggage as that is checked right through. I will be there on a weekday.

thanks
Janine

take the train to Kew Gardens - easy to get to from Heathrow. I had a similar experience and had this suggested to me by a Heathrow police officer - great suggestion and a sweet pastry shop just on the road that you walk down from the train station to the gardens!!

we also have a 7 hour wait and fly in from Bangkok.I am useless with long haul flights so we are just booking into the Hilton hotel- its connected by walkway to the terminal. At least if , by any chance, I am NOT shattered I have somewhere to relax, have a shower etc.

Bless you Fiona - I thought I was the only person on this Forum whoever thought that a long connection could be tiring. I've suggested day rooms at airport hotels before and occasionally have gotten ripped apart for suggesting taking a rest and/or shower. I know how I feel after a 10-12 hr flight and if I had a 7 hr layover I'd want to rest a bit and freshen up, not go sightseeing. (Each to their own tho I guess .. and for those who care I am not ancient, but I do find long trips tiring as I don't sleep on the plane).

The Hilton, easily accessible from Term 4 by covered walkway, us a great place to get a day room and relax a bit. It's also handy as an overnight hotel and you can even take your luggage on a trolley right to the door. I'd relax and have a nice meal there and not worry about dashing around on the tube.

There are showers at the airport as well if you didn't want to get a hotel room. I recently had 5 hours at the airport and found myself almost losing track of time and having to walk quickly to my gate. You'd be surprised how quickly time can go by at the duty free stores!!
