Hi concher: Have stayed at the Sheraton at Frankfurt Airport numerous times, the last time about 3 weeks ago. Always find it so convenient for early a.m. flights out, no hassle and if you're flying Lufthansa you can check your luggage and get seat assignments the night before your flight. Works very well for us. There are quite a few hotels with shuttles near the airport also, but if you use one of them be sure of the shuttle times in regards to your flight times, some don't run early in the a.m. thus the need for a taxi. Hope this helps.

try the Schlosshotel Kronberg, (LHW.COM), this is an actual castle, absolutely stunning grounds and the finest breakfast/brunch that i have ever had in all of Europe, and we stay at nothing but 5 star hotels. On both occasions we had a rental car, and it was 15 minutes to the airport, even in a snow storm, very easy ride. In town, we stay at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof, a five star with very nice rooms. i'd give the castle a shot, and just down the street from the hotel are a few very nice, charming local restaurants. You feel like your in the middle of the country, but your just outside the city.

if you haven't gone yet I would 2nd the recommendation for the Schloss Hotel Kronberg - about a 20-30min taxi ride from the airport. It is very special...feels like you are going back in time to a more elegant and gracious era and the food is fantastic.

I also stayed at the Sheraton at Frankfurt Airport and was blown away by how fast & easy it was to access the airport when it was time to leave. In my case, I had heavy bags that had become hard to manage because I had been shopping for 2 weeks.
So eliminating that part of the hassle was well worth it.....I simply rolled out of my room, to the lobby, and across the bridge to the airport.
