5* hotels in Geneva

Hotel des Bergues + Le Richemond. Which is the better of the two hotels? Many thanks, Ralph.

We had a deal at des Bergues a few years ago and spent two nights there. It is a beautiful hotel, and we had an elegant room with a nice view to the water. Don't know Le Richemond, so can't compare.

rlewis,

The only 5* hotel I feel comfortable recommending is the Du Rhone, which is managed by Mandarin Oriental. The President Wilson is also quite good. Unfortunately, both of these have ugly, modern exteriors...

The Richemond is not what it used to be and the Des Bergues is in the midst of a management change (from Le Meridien to Four Seasons).

Hope this helps,
Andre

For what it is worth, I'd seldom let a thing like a management change under way deter me. In fact the usual procedure would be for the new company to send some of their top people to take over and do training. I've often found that you get even better service as the new management is probably trying harder than they ever will again!

Ralph,

Could you be more specific - what type of "nightlife" are you looking for?

Restaurants (cuisine, price range)?
Bars/clubs?
Theater, opera, concerts?

P.S. the management change at the Des Bergues will only take place this coming summer - hence my fear that right now the current management team may have its mind on finding a new job vs. taking care of guests...

Andre

Thanks for the management update Andre. Yes, I should have been more specific. My interest would fall into the Clubs category. Thanks once again.
Ralph.

Ralph,

The hippest club is the "B Club" below the Baroque bar/lounge on Place de la Fusterie in the center of town. There's often a line to get in - it's easier to past the bouncer if you're not a single guy - also no jeans/sneakers. Besides the Baroque, another fun place to start the evening is the "Arthur's Rive Gauche" on the rue du Rhone (it's nearby).

Both places are an easy walk from the Hotel des Bergues, a bit further from the Richemond or du Rhone, but still close enough (about 10-15 min. tops).

Another trendy bar/lounge is the "Demi-Lune" in the old town (can't remember the street name).

There are other places, but I'm not really a big club person...

Hope this helps,
Andre
