4 weeks in February or October. Where would YOU go?
I have a four-week sabbatical coming up in 2010 and I’m in desperate need of inspiration!
Where would you go if you had 4 weeks in either February or October, and a modest budget of $10,000 for 2 people.
I’m in my 30s, will be travelling with my partner, and would like to leisurely explore an area or country (rather than visiting 8 countries). Prefer to roam around, enjoy cafes, markets, architecture, scenery. Ideally weather would be in the range of 65-75.

Well, in that "I love Italy" I would chose Italy and go in October. It does sound as though you would enjoy Italy, Travellin, although it might not be as warm as you would like but who knows as the weather patterns keep changing.

Argentina in February, at least if you aren't in Ushuaia or some such place, will be rather more than 65-75 during the day, generally. But you could definitely do the trip cheaply. I'm not sure of the weather in October in Argentina.
Otherwise, in Europe, if you are aiming for a cheaper trip, southern Spain is a great suggestion for either month (although I'm not sure of the weather). I could easily envision having 4 "bases" in a 4-week trip to Spain (or maybe you might even choose to do some "bases" in Portugal). That would allow sufficient time to enjoy each spot, and you would also see a lot.
I always think sooner is better than later for a trip, because who knows what will happen if you delay it.
