4 day trip to Switzerland
Hi
We have planned for a 4 day trip to Switzerland during the last week of October.
This is our planned itenary
Day 1- Fly to Zurich from London..Train to Lucern and Mt.Titilis and reach Interlaken by evening/night. We have booked a hotel for 3 days in Interlaken
Day 2 - Jungfrau
Does this take the entire day??
Day 3 - Interlaken to Zermatt. planning for Klein Matterhorn.
Gornergrat, Rothorn, sunnegga Which one of these is worth going given just 1 day!? is it possible?
Day 4 - taking the Golden Pass from Interlaken to Lucerne. Spend day in Lucerne City and back to Zurich by evening for flight back to London.
How realistic do you think this is?
Would Interlaken to Zermatt be possible as a day trip? (may be take the first train to Zermatt and the last train to Interlaken.)
Any suggestions would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Hi cheenu,
The train trip from Interlaken to Zermatt takes 3h28 each way, so about seven hours on the train. Not my idea of a good time! All you'll remember is the four-walled moving carriage!
Rail schedules at www.rail.ch.
I suggest you enjoy yourself in/around Interlaken: Alpine walks, lakeside promenades, towns of Thun & Spiez (each with a castle), Alpine gardens, and much more!
Have fun.

You can easily take the whole day to ascend the Jungfrau - depnding on what stops at little towns you want to make on the way.
What you haven;t accounted for is the weather. The tops of these mountains are often in the clouds - and if it is rainy (snowy at the top) or even cloudy there is little point going to the top - since you can see nothing. (On the day you plan to ascend you call the train station and they will tell you conditions at the top - so you know to bother or not. We had to wait 2 days to get a good day.)
Agree to spend time in/around Interlaken and Lucerne - where there is plenty to see/do without all that time on the train to Zermatt.
You could take a variety of boat rides on the various lakes, ascend whichever mountains are "open", see some of the small villages, do some hiking, explore Thun (an adorable town) and it's castle or visit the Outdoor Museum near Brienz.

Many hotels have a video cam of the mountain tops in their lobby so if you are lucky you can see for yourself what the conditions are. If they are good, go right away - don't wait a few hours to go - the conditions can change up there very rapidly.

Hi Ppl
Thanks for the info.
I was hoping to see Matterhorn somehow so i squeezed it in. But i guess i need to re-consider after seeing ur posts
How cold would it be during Oct end?
I dunno if the boat rides and ferrys would be functioning then.
Anything interesting to see in Zurich? Is Rappersville worth a visit?

Mt. Titlis is not on the way to Interlaken. It's located in Engelberg, the last stop on the line. To get to Engelberg, you have to go via Lucerne but will need to return to Lucerne if you want to continue on to Interlaken.
Maybe you meant Mt. Pilatus?
