2nd Arr in Paris - would you stay there?

I am looking to stay at Hotel Tiquetonne in 2nd Arr. This is my first trip to Paris. Would you stay in this area?

Hi Helen,

I have not stayed at this hotel, but I would stay in the 2nd - but not as my first choice. In order of my preference would be the 5th, 6th, 4th. Each give one a closer 'feel' for Paris and Parisan life.

The 1st and 2nd are more 'business' oriented from my point of view.

All are equally well situated to have a quality experience in Paris. The transportation system is so super that you need not be concerned about being close to the typical sites that attract visitors.

Have a great trip.

No, I wouldn't stay in this area. It's not awful, but there are a million other places to stay that would be better. Is that what you want to know?

The website below says that the Hotel Tiquetonne, at 6 rue Tiquetonne, is "top value rooming with larger than average chambres and on one of the trendiest streets in town to boot."

If it's true that the rue Tiquetonne is, at present, one of the trendiest streets in Paris, then I would certainly say there are Parisians who consider the area desirable.

Hopefully, Helen will see this post soon before Fodors deletes it since it has the word "naked" in it.

Thanks for the replies - I was just a "little" hesitant about the area, so I might re-think this area for "the big first trip" and stay in the 5th or 6th Arr.
I will definitely check it out though - for future reference.

Thanks again
Helen

Please don't give up on this hotel just yet. It's only one block from the 1st arr., close to a main metro line (#4), easy walk to Les Halles etc. And it is super cheap for the area. Lots of commentary on Google.com and most of it quite positive, especially for the price and the one star rating. If you are a bit adventurous--why not try it?

I know Paris pretty well and have spent a lot of time there and I would stay there if I had to and were getting some unbelievable deal. However, I would not choose to stay there and wouldn't recommend it to someone for a first trip. I would not consider an easy walk to Les Halles to be desirable (nor would I want to walk there much, especially at night).
