a stay in paris
Hello Paris travelers--I would appreciate a few tips on the right area of Paris to stay--we are a couple with a 18 yr. old daughter interested in seeing the sights but not the night-life club scene--we have it narrowed to the 3rd or 5th district--all of your replies are greatly appreciated--thank you

There are plenty of places to stay that aren't near any nightclubs, including the 3rd and 5th... The 4th and 6th are also popular with first-time visitors. I posted a rather detailed example of how to choose a hotel in Paris over on Tripadvisor's Paris forum, if you care to visit that. Or you can just use the Search function to locate 'hotel in Paris', 'Paris hotels' etc. Also there is a Hotel Reviews section here on Fodors.com

Hi JW,
What draws you to the 3rd arrond?
In Paris, we always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 134E dbl w/bkfst. It is just around the corner from Place St. Sulpice, near 3 metro stops and 4 bus routes. Has AC and an elevator.
The staff speaks English well, and is very helpful.

I, personally, prefer 6th first, then 5th.
I don't like the Marais, except for the Place des Voges and the Rue des Francs Bourgeois. I hate the area around the Pompidou Center; I think it is tacky.
There are LOTS of students in the 5th, so your young daughter may like that area best.

I have only been to Paris one time for 5 days in 2001.
I think the 4th is better than the 3rd. It was more sophisticated. Closer to Seine, which I want to see everyday while in Paris. We stayed on Rue St Antione.(sp)
Perfect location.
We will stay in the 4th again this fall for 4 nights.
If you are set on 3rd or 5th, a young person would really like the 5th I think.

I've been a 6th person since the early 80s and prefer it, although I've stayed all over Paris.
I have a Paris hotel thread for the left bank and right bank with suggestions from fodorites on their favorite hotels. Just click on my screen name and then scroll to it. It's called, "Paris Hotels Left Bank" and "Paris Hotels Right Bank". You can get some ideas from there. Happy Travels!
