As mentioned in the Sicily portion of this TR, I'd be very interested in hearing how things have changed. The hotel in Sorrento was fabulous for tourists. Its view of Mt. Vesuvius and the water was wonderful. They had an on-call jitney that took you to a park in Sorrento.

We spent the first day walking around Sorrento. Hotel views first:

The stop for Pompeii was close to Sorrento if memory serves.





It seemed there were folks selling old maps. Warning to buy only official ones. There were also bogus guides charging huge amounts for tours.

What great memories of such a beautiful place in Italy. I am really enjoying reading both of your reports. We stayed in Positano and did day trips from there by bus and by boat. What amazing views. Thank you for posting this is so much more fun to read than the news.

Thank you, Paqngo. Did you get a ferry from Positano?

Yes. We took a ferry to Capri one day and another day took one to Amalfi but then took the bus from Amalfi to Positano. It really was one of my favorite places to visit.

It would behoove one to get ferry schedules from Positano then. We were prime walkers in 2002 and were still looking for elevators!

The stairs...they just keep going and going. Makes up for the delicious gelato.

We looked back at the view from the bus, then walked around Sorrento for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, Capri!

It took forever to get these pages loaded so I'm going to post them and add more tomorrow. The water was too rough for the blue lagoon. We opted to walk up to Capri proper and decided it would have been smarter to descend back to the ferry! It was a tough walk for us.
