Am planning to have my vacation in Paris for 14 days with my girlfriend...

Can anyone give me a brief idea or estimated amount of money that I need for the 14 days? (Dollar in Euro)

For an average traveller...
Not extremely cheap hotel, neither extremely high class hotel..

Excluding air tickets, as I have already found out the price of it.

Hotel anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars a day. Food & drinks $100 a day. Misc, which includes the cost of everything you decide to see, $50 a day.

All this is an estimate but I would guess $200 to $300 dollars a day.

A basic would be about $100 per day, give or take (assuming you share a room so only 1/2 the cost) including accommodations, light breakfasts, picnic/light lunches and inexpensive/moderate dinners. You can go as high as you want from there.

I'd say I average about $150+ a day not counting shopping.

I really think $200-300 per day is pretty good. When I look at what we spend, that is about right.

Eric's budget is possible, but I think is a little on the low side given the current value of the dollar -- if you intend to go lower-midrange. At least if that is for two people, not one. IF it is for one person, I'd agree.

I'd say more like US$150 per person at least if you aren't trying to go real cheap, and that's only around 100 euro each. YOu are more budget at that range, not real mid-level, I'd say.

If you're staying in Paris for the entire 2 weeks, you'll save some money by renting an apartment. An apartment costs about the same as a hotel but you can more space than a 12x12 room.

You also can cook meals in the apartment and that will save you a significant amount of $, rather than eating out 3x/day.

You can find acceptable dinners for 25 or 30 euro each. Our hotel many years ago was 150 euro per night (not per person).

Like most big cities in Europe, you will have to work to keep on a tight budget. A lot of research on accomaodations etc.

In September 2007 I paid 150 &euro; for Hotel Bonaparte-2* hotel which came to approx.$225.00. I can't give much advise on food costs because I am not a foodie. I am happy with a crepe or sandwich or best of all an eclair. Maybe the dollar will buy more Euros by the time you are in Paris.

I think you need to allow ~$200USD per night even for a 3-star hotel in Paris. So you're at $2800 for lodging alone.

Daily expenses are easier to make be what you need them to be. But I think at a minimum $150 per day for 2 people, and that would NOT include extravagant restaurants. So there's another $2,100.

Toss in another $1000 for admissions and local transportation (~$70 per day for the two of you).

That's $5000 for 14 days.

It all depends what you want, and when you're going. Our Paris hotel for March is a fairly central 3* at 80 Euros per night with breakfast (say about $115 USD).

For a 2-week apartment stay you could likely do better.

If, in a day, I have a couple museums plus a 20 Euro concert plus a 20 Euro dinner (which is cheap for a dinner), that starts to add up quickly.

My cheapie hotel + avg. for meals + avg. for transportation comes to 175&euro; or $252 per day for both of us. Then you'll spend on museums and activities on top of that... We sometimes have a 35&euro; dinner/for 2 and sometimes an 80&euro; dinner/for 2.

My rule of thumb for the past 35 years has been, &quot;One week of vacation = 2 weeks income&quot;.

I agree with Janis. Determine your budget and then find your accomodations.

I'd also look at Travelocity/Expedia to get a quick swag at a budget, get a flight/hotel deal. I went Nov 06, flight (solo) and hotel for 4 nights was US$1100. Hotel was 3 star, away from the centre.

I sure hope you don't mean that literally. There is absolutely no need to carry much money at all. Besides the extra cost of getting &euro; ahead of time, it just isn't safe to have all that cash. Just use your ATM card to get &euro; as needed. (You can also use use credit cards for many/most expenses.) Leave your money in your checking account back home and access it w/ your ATM card.

I spent $100/day last time...but I stayed in hostels.

Still, this time with my DH we've worked it out to be just a little more - we are choosing recommended budget hotels straight out of our guide book (Lonely Planet - sorry Fodors). Our breakdown looks like this:

$50/night for two
$40/day for food+drink each
$30/day sites each

$inner city transport: we are getting a pass: 5 day Paris visite pass 26.65E each

Other costs include inter-city transport - the more day-trips and moving around the more money naturally.

Shopping is up to you..I gave myself $200 but only spent about $100 for my whole two weeks last time. I was a bit of a tight-wad though.

I find it helpful (though I get razzed shamelessly for this) to do up a spread sheet which outlines costs in detail. Mine outlines what we plan on doing each day and that give us a more specific view of daily site costs.
