2 weeks in Scotland w/Family -- Itinerary Feedback
Family of 4 with 2 kids (7yr and 10yr) that are experienced travellers. No car so all public transportation + walking
Our schedule:
- Day 0 -- Leave US
- Day 1 -- Leave Edinburgh, Head to Glasgow (couldnt find much in the way of reasonable hotels in Edinburgh)
- Day 2-3: Glasgow
- Day 4: Glasgow --> Isle of Arran (Wife was insistent we spend at least a few days on an island)
- Day 5-6: Isle of Arran
- Day 7: Isle of Arran --> Somewhere halfway to Inverness
- Day 8: Transfer to Inverness
- Day 9-10: Inverness
- Day 11: Inverness-->Edinburgh
-Day 12-13: Edinburgh
- Day 14: Head home
Thoughts?

Your itinerary is quite scattered -- some general comments:
Arran to Inverness would be Ferry to the mainland, train to Glasgow Central station, walk or taxi to Glasgow Queen Street station, train to Inverness. Takes about 7-8 hours total. You could stop over in Stirling (fantastic Castle but only about 1/4 of the way to Inverness) - or - in Perth (Scone Palace -- closer to half way to inverness). Stirling has more to see, Perth is better logistically for journey times.
Are you firm in not wanting to rent a car -- even for just some of the trip?
Except for Arran, this is entirely a city-focused trip. You could take local tours out of Inverness but otherwise its just Glasgow/Inverness/Edinburgh.
What sorts of things other than an island somewhere are you interested in seeing/doing?
