For European cities Priceline is always a good bet, using their name your own price deal you should get a good hotel around the Opera or Champs Elysee for your budget.

With Paris, though, the Priceline zones are set up in such a way that you might get an outlying hotel. It sounds like dutyfree wants a hotel that is in a more central and picturesque location than most Priceline hotels. Dutyfree, is there any reason for the 3* requirement in particular? Many discriminating posters seem very happy with a few select 2* hotel offerings (but a random 2* hotel might not be so great).

October is still convention season in Paris, so rates are not 'down'...

Did you review any of my suggestions?

Have you thought about renting a small apartment? The experience of "living" in Paris is so different from staying in a hotel. You can find something easily in your price range, and in a great area. We just stayed in an apartment in a great location for less than what you have budgeted. I highly recommend an apartment over a hotel.

You have several possibilities above. I just wanted to ditto that Priceline isn't very good for Paris. PL is good in some cities, nearly useless in others. For instance It is brilliant for London. But in Paris the way they draw the zones you are almost guaranteed to get a hotel in an inconvenient or distant location.

If you're careful you can also get good hotels in the area you want with Priceline. You have to stick to only 2 areas; Champs Elysee - Opea Quarter west & Opera Quarter East - Les Halles. The 1st area I have stayed once at the Meridien l'Etoile & twice at the Melia Alexander, the Melia had the better location but we loved the Meridien hotelwise, we got those hotels for between 80 & 95 dollars. The 2nd location only has the Novotel Les Halles so if you only bid on this area you're sure to get this hotel.
I have to say though that if you've never used Priceline before it's probably better to stick with normal reservation channels for Paris.

I can do a two star hotel-just wanted to have my own bathroom and not share with strangers;not share the same double bed with the "princess" and be in an area that wouldn't require major miles of walking to get anywhere.(I have been told in the past two weeks that a total knee replacement is in my immediate future!!)I hate the area by Novotel Eiffel Tower where I usually stay for work as the metro line takes many changes to get anywhere centrally from there and there are no decent/fun restaurants in the area. This is the reason I appreciate you offering me a great area with a decent hotel. Our mother/daughter weekends are coming to an end soon with her college graduation so that is why I want this to be special!

HI df,

>I can do a two star hotel-just wanted to have my own bathroom and not share with strangers;not share the same double bed with the "princess" and be in an area that wouldn't require major miles of walking to get anywhere.<

Which is why I recommended the Bonaparte.

They have rooms with twin beds, an elevator, AC, Bkfst in your room, and are very close to 3 Metro stops and a bus stop.

Look up 61 rue Bonaparte on www.mappy.com for location.

Hi dutyfree - you've gotten a lot of good recommendations above, did you try them and they are all booked? Your price of 88 euro is kind of low, but I think you should be able to find a room with 2 beds and a private bathroom. I am staying at Hotel Monge, recommened above, in a few weeks, the rate is 106 euro for a twin bedded room. So, that is close to your price. I am also staying at the Hotel Muguet, recommended above, that twin bedded room is about 120 euro. Both hotels are highly recommened here and on TripAdvisor. I hope they live up to that!

Have you tried Hotel Andrea Rivoli? It is near Hotel d'Ville and I think it is in your price. I had it on my list of alternates if I couldn't get the 2 I mention above. Also, I've stayed twice at Grand Hotel des Balcons, near the Odeon metro. Great location, great breakfast, clean rooms - the only reason I didn't stay there again this trip is that it lacks A/C, which would not be a problem in October.
Have a fun trip!

Hi robe,

I did that and got a map of the US in one panel and a list of various establishments (none of them the Bonaparte) on another.

What did I do wrong?

Try 61 rue bonaparte paris. Any time you get a US map, you need to specify a country.

But I notice that Google puts it a block north of where http://photos.pagesjaunes.fr does. I'll go with the latter.

Try the Al'Ideal hotel in Montparnasse on Boulevard Jourdan. Its 3 stars, available for under $ 125 and the hotel entrance is right in front (10 feet) of metro port orleans. You can book it through www.activehotels.com

Make sure you know the address of Hotel l'Ideal, as there is another one..
108 Blvd Jourdan, Paris 75014
That's a very busy street, might want a room on the back. It has been refurbished in the past year.

To get two beds, you need a "triple" (95&euro.

Hi Robe,

OK. Although Google says just "rue Bonaparte"

Hi Trav,

Correct, as is ViaMichelin (almost).

Still trying to find a hotel-so many are booked or have jacked their prices up for that week.(I have written to over 32 hotels!!!) They all seem to have prices go down November 1st! Anyway, I can stay at the Novotel Les Halles for 132 euros which still seems high;Hotel Bonaparte has never sent me anything about availability even after two emails ,etc. So am waiting on Monge and wanted to know how CLS2 Paris's stay went there? Anyone else with some other suggestions?

We stayed at Hotel Chomel a couple of weeks ago. I found a room there when most other places seemed to be booked. I found it on venere.com, but booked with the hotel directly. I liked where it was-it's right around the corner from Bon Marche, near the Sevres-Babylon metro stop which has two lines. The hotel itself is nothing fancy, but served our purpose well. It is right across the street from an elementary school, so no late mornings, but that was okay. The breakfast consisted of a croissant and a hard roll-pretty old after a while, but the Bon Marche gourmet market is very close. We paid 105E for the first night and 140E for the next four nights.
