Thank you so much for your inspiring posts.
I spent most of my youth in the area, and still come back to visit relatives. So obviously, I know all places you visited. Ahem, many of them, only by name. And I feel bit ashamed not to spend more time there instead of flying long haul.
Also, you may have heard of unheard levels of crowds queuing for the usual suspects last May (Giverny, Mont St Michel...). And obviously, you did not face the problem.
What you write about should be the ultimate tourist experience, taking some risks, venturing to less traveled places, avoiding peak season and in some cases exploring your own neighborhood.
Auray is definitely a great place with local appeal and convenient as a travel base (car or train).
in May, I guess the "tire bouchon" (corkscrew) is not operating. The nickname for the train from Auray to Quiberon (with ferry connection to beautiful Belle Īle and secluded Houat and Hoedic) comes from the infamous riad traffic jams (bouchons) in summer.

Merci Cheska. Btw, I just spent the weekend up at a friend's cottage. His wife and her female cousins are a trio that have just visited London and today were apparently taking the Chunnel to Paris. *They too, had some sort of last-minute cancellation for their Paris rental. Hope you sort out Lille.
