2 Days Arenal/3 Days Monteverde or 3 Days Arenal/2 Days Monteverde

The Monteverde Lodge is going to be charging my credit card soon for three days near the end of May. I need to decide whether I should change my reservations to two days there and increase my room at Lost Iguana to three days. Right now I have two days at Arenal. We will be stopping at Poas, Doka Coffee Plantation and LaPaz on the way up to LI. I don't know how long that will take, but assume most of the day will be gone by the time we get there. Have reservations for taxi/boat/taxi from Arenal to Monteverde first thing in the morning two days later, so I think we will have plenty of time to do afternoon stuff in Monteverde and an evening hike in Children's Eternal Rain Forest. I'm afraid I won't have enough time in Arenal if I only have 1 1/2 days there. Please help!!

WELL this is an age old question and delima for most!!!!

I think you need at least 2 full days at each location. So I think 3 nights Arenal and 2 nights Monteverde, if you can swing 3 nights each that IMHO would be perfect.

Thanks for your thoughts. You gave me the answer I was hoping for. Now I need to see if LI has availability for one more night.

Hi,

I agree with dfarmer - 3 in Arenal. If LI doesn't have room, there are tons of hotels in La Fortuna and on the road around the volcano. You will not have a problem getting a nice room somewhere.

Full Disclosure: I'm the one who posted the trip report about doing CR without reservations...

I did hear back from Tara at LI and they do have availability for the extra day.

kaudry -- I was going to look around for something else had there not been availability.

Thanks for your help.
