We are taking a cruise, leaving June 2 and will visit these cities...Are these cities doable on foot from the ship or do we need to go into them with a train/bus/taxi, etc.?

<B> Stockholm </b>

There are actually three separate areas that ships can dock for Stockholm.
Generally, they will dock at Stadsgarden pier in one of the canals about a mile or so from Old Town.

<B> Helsinki </B>

Ships will most likely port at the Hernesaari Cruise Ship Dock in the West Harbor.
From this port, the distance to town center is approximately 2 miles.

There will be taxi waiting for you as you disembark the ship!

<B> Tallinn </B>

The ship will dock in the commercial pier area and you will be required to take a taxi or shuttle for short ride to Old Town.

Just ask the taxi driver to drop you off at the "Fat Margaret" Entrance to the Old Town.

<B> Copenhagen </B>

The ship docks at Langelinie Pier about 1 mile from the center of town. A taxi downtown will cost about 100 DKK( about $20.00)

Just booked a last minute cruise on the 2nd June as well. Does anyone know how to get to the harbour in Amsterdam from Centraal Station?

Henda,
when we were there with Oceania, we docked just a few minutes from the Central train station (a very nice new ship terminal). It's about one or two tram stops or a very short cab ride from the station. I would probably only take the tram if you are young or have very little luggage.

It was helpful for me in planning my trip to the Baltics.


Also,jacketwatch helped me as he went two months before I did.
So it was nice to pick other peoples brains.!!

Thanks for the feedback and report BillJ and I have read jacketwatch's report.Will follow both as far as possible.In the meantime I am worried about the weather this time of year and not shure as to what to pack. Looking and temperatures currently (10ºC) it seems that I will have to pack a ski-jacket? Also, are the formal nights on the Century very formal (been on the Noordam before and that was formal!)and NCL (informal). I would like not to pack to much unneccesary items.

Actually we went at nearly the same time you are going. For us it was June 11-21 and a light jacket (waterproof) was all I needed and even then not all the time. In Gdansk it was really nice the day we ported so all I needed that day was a thin sweater vest. take layers, check the weather and dress accordingly. The worst that could happen would be rain though the weather is unpredictable.

Henda: Formal night on Century IS very formal; most guys in tuxedos. (Me too) Ladies were dressy. My wife just brought one fancy outfit, wore it both times with a few different accessories.
It was kinda fun, but a bit of a pain to pack. Many other guys just had on a dark suit, and it seemed to pass ok.
Some folks just didn't eat in the dinning room that night.

You are assigned seats on the first dinner. So you sit with the same people every time. You are not trapped though, you can request a change, even in mid cruise, and you will be accommodated. But once your seats are established, that's where you sit every night.
By the end of the cruise, there were some VERY friendly tables. We were at a table for 4, so only one other couple. We hit it off fine, and had great dinner conversations.

Henda & M3573 - Hope you'll post after you return with any tips or pointers. We're headed to the Baltic 7/12/09 on Azamara and would like to hear your follow-up comments!
