Just as you can choose a land trip of varying prices, you can do the same with a cruise.
Depending on how you get to the ship, whether or not you arrive a day (or more) before, the price of the hotel you choose, the type of ship you choose, the type of cabin you choose, what and how much you drink, how much you gamble, the type of siteseeing you decide to do, the spa treatments you choose, the shopping you do. The list is endless. If you asked 10 people on the same ship, I am sure you would get 10 differnt answers. It really is up to you. Hope this helps. (Don't let anyone intimidate you..it can cost minimum if that's what you are comfortable with)

Hey Jen--- Would you mind telling me which Ft. Lauderdale you decided on for pre (or post) cruise?
Does it have a shuttle from the airport and to the cruise port?
Is it on the beachfront?
Thanks!

Reading this thread has been most entertaining!! I had assumed Billie was a man! I've never cruised but have booked a Tahiti cruise on Paul Gauguin for $5K for 2 people, air included, along with gratuities and wine pour at dinner/lunch. I think it's a great deal! I'd rather pay more to go somewhere exotic on a 6-star or 5-star cruiseline. But we're going with the lowest priced cabin, and plan to spend the difference on excursions.

Go in a group, its even cheaper, our total pp rate for and inside cabin for everything(7 night carnival, port charges, transfers) including one night in san juan at the marriot is $1046, balcony room came to $1396, and this is flying from detroit to san juan which can be expensive. I remeber last time we went our cruise bill was $550 for two and that included two excursions, and then I think we spent about $600 for two for tips, gambling, spending money on island. We are not big gamblers though, so that can throw you off. So, I think billy's estimate is pretty right, 1500 for inside and 2000 for outside per person.

Billie: I'd spend $400 on my pugs if I could (I'm being serious) they mean alot to me. And my daughter complains everytime I have her watch them when we cruise (they like to sleep with her and take up to much room). But I would rather have them with her then in a cheap kennel!
