I'm not sure which episode iperkins was responding to. I for one didn't have designer clothes in my suitcase. Most of the stuff belonged to my daughter, things she received for Xmas and some of it not even worn. We did purchase the insurance but some things just can't be replaced.

Thanks for those who helped explain the process of getting on and off the ship (nope I don't know a thing about it! so am most grateful for your patience) and for tips on packing light. I would not be attending any of the type of activities that need a ballgown -lol!

Suze - I know you are packing light but here is what I do (longer cruises have more formal nights so I am prepared) I take one long black slinky skirt and as many tops as there are formal nights. On a one week cruise there are two (usually). Again as has been discussed many times here you don't have to be Formal. Dark suit for a man is fine and as I say a dressy top and long black skirt works everytime. Have fun.

traveller69~ I highly doubt I would participate in formal nights on a ship, but is good to have the black skirt strategy in my bag of tricks! Reading this post got me thinking & I just know I wouldn't need multiple large suitcases with loads of clothes for any 7-days anywhere, cruise or otherwise, so
;-) Thanks again for the kind reply.

bearland~ Sorry about the suitcase and all, but it is *impossible* to know exactly WHO stole your stuff.

Suze if you plan on dining in the main dining room on formal nights they do request "Dressy" wear. If you don't want to dress up you can go to their Lido or whatever name they give it on the line you choose which is the buffet restaurant all the ships have. In the evening they serve you rather than buffet dining but you can wear casual clothes. By the way I have seen every form of dress imaginable on formal nights in the dining room on women from long sequined gowns to polyester pant suits. Its the men who have to wear a jacket and tie.

Whatever you do enjoy yourself.

Hi, Bearland
Am so sorry to hear of your experience..it is always infuriating to be at someone else's 'mercy', and to be victimized. Our society wants to blame the victim...not sure why we all do that..
Your story has impacted me, and I will learn from your horrible story. I am planning a trip with Princess in March...I plan to use my digital camera and photo everything in my suitcase prior to the trip and on the way home. I am not bringing my good jewelry and I will take off the logo on my suitcases, too. I might even sew something really tacky on the suitcases,,,,I will bring mostly worn clothes, and worn shoes to help deter the jerks who work in that industry who bring a bad name to those who are sincere.
I work in the medical profession, and every once in awhile, there is a rogue dr or nurse who bring shame to the rest of us, but for the most part, my profession is a group of sincere, dedicated people who really care. I would like to believe that this is how the travel industry is, too. I hope you find satisfaction with the home owner insurance...

I posted on Jan. 22nd about my lost luggage on Princess. As of last Friday I still hadn't heard from them but my doorbell rang that morning and a DHL truck was outside with my suitcase! I didn't even know it had been located. I'm assuming it had been on the ship the whole time and I will call Princess on Monday to comfirm this. I'm just glad to have my belongings back. For once a Happy Ending.
