It's Thursday. We leave Monday from LA on a 4-day cruise to Ensanada, Mexico. We were told we need a birth certificate and Drivers License. The problem is, my license expired last Monday and I haven't gotten my new one in the mail yet. DMV tells me there's nothing they can do, except give me a piece of paper that says my license has expired. One RCCL agent said this was ok. On another call, the agent said it was not ok. Has anyone had this problem and did they take the paper?

OOPS! I meant to say DMV would give me a piece of paper that said my license had been extended, not expired.

One man's thinking...not an immigration officer.<BR><BR>The requirement is for positive identification and proof of citizenship. It is not the requirement that driving privileges be enforced...unless you want to drive the ship.

It is the responsibility of the cruise line to ensure that each passenger complies with the entry requirements of the country of destination.So,it is their call.The drivers license in most cases is acceptable for the &quot;photo ID&quot; as it is government issued.When most states renew the DL, they leave the picture intact and cut off the &quot;Valid till&quot; designation.An indication from the DMV that your license has in fact been renewed may be accepted.Your BC,DL,plus the other indication of renewal whatever form that takes is what you have.At this late date you cant do anymore.IMHO, I wud think you are OK.But its up to the guys you check in with.As always if you need to, get a supervisor.Of course, best of luck.I have my fingers crossed and I think you will be fine.<BR>SG

Thanks so much for the replies. No, passport. I got the paper from DMV that extends the expiration date on my license. I called RCCL again and the third agent said it was ok. If it doesn't, I guess we'll spend the week in LA. Thanks again!

Make sure your birth certificate is the original. A copy is not acceptable.

Actually an original OR a certified copy will work.

Dont forget that RAISED SEAL!!Certified Copies without a raised sea are not worth the paper they are printed on.

I wouldn't be too worried about it.<BR><BR>Remember, these people work for the cruise line. If you don't board, you don't spend money on board and you tell 50 people you had a bad experience with the line.<BR><BR>Where's their incentive to get picky?<BR><BR>Have a great trip!

Spy Guy is correct. Any kind of picture ID with birthdate will do. Even an expired passport. Try the town clerk in the city where you were born. They may issue a picture birth certificate. <BR><BR>Hope Jacque got on the ship.<BR><BR>Paul

HI EVERYONE!!<BR><BR>We just got back from our cruise yesterday and everything went great!! We had the best time and the weather was GREAT!! As far as my expired license went, I never said anything about it and neither did anyone else. I had the paper that said the expiration from DMV had been extended but I never had to use it. This was true for the airlines, the cruise ship and imigration. Imigration was actually a joke. They never even looked at our birth certificates except to see that we had two in our possesion (could have been anyone's as far as they were concerned!) Thanks again for all your replies.

Another stupid security manuver, eh? <BR>What is wrong with these airline employees? You would think they would have learned their lesson after 9/11. Lots are not doing their job properly and we the passengers have to suffer.
