hawaii inter-island cruises

We are looking for an inter-island cruise in Hawaii. Most that I've researched leave from the mainland and spend 5 days going and 5 days coming back. We just want to start and end in the islands. The only one I can find is NCL Aloha which is a very large ship. Are there any smaller ships that do only the islands? Any info will be appreciated.

Pride of Aloha is the only one as of now. I believe NCL will be sending 2 more ships to Hawaii, both large. There are press releases regarding the ships at ncl.com.

NCL is the first cruise line to have ships registered in the US. There is some type of rule that foreign registered ships must stop at a foreign port, e.g., Fanning Island or Ensenada, thus making those 2 week long itineraries.

Pride of Aloha has been faced with many problems since it started sailing a few weeks ago. There is more information on the cruisecritic.com message boards. Will be taking our chances with this ship during Dec. Hope this helps.

Thanks, travelinwifey, for the reply. It's the big ships like the Pride of Aloha with over 2,000 guests that we are trying to avoid. We were on the NCL Dawn and hated it. We prefer the smaller ships. I guess we'll just have to visit the islands some other way.

Yes, I understand Pride of Aloha's cabins are among the smallest of the cruise lines. NCL is not our choice either but they are the only at this point, we are wanting to try something different.

But I do understand that the ship goes by the live volcanoes of the BI at night which is supposed to be quite beautiful.
