The ship, the NCL Breakaway waited like 40-50 mins. but as it was pulling out she arrived at the dock but too late. The hubby got off to look for her after not being able to ring her up leaving their kids on board with his brother so they were ok. He contacted NCL and they were aware of this and he got off with all their necessary travel docs and I read NCL helped them get flights back to NYC to meet the cruise.
Anyone who cruises should know you HAVE to be back on time or the ship goes without you.

Happens all the time.

Watched a lady from my cabin's balcony who was late in Juneau, Alaska. Broke down in tears, too. Probably did cost the lady a fortune for hiring a private plane to catch up with the vessel in the next port.

“You are told again and again what time to be back on the boat, generally an hour before the ship leaves port. You can’t blame the ships Captain for keeping to a schedule,” one woman commented on YouTube.

My theory is she didn't reset her watch for a time change and in her mind was on time.

Thats one possibility. I was wondering about that too. I know when we cruised the Baltic there were frequent time changes that you had to keep up with. However if its the same cruise I saw there was no time zone changes. It started out of NYC and went to Orlando and two stops in the Bahamas and all those places are on eastern time.

Perhaps showing a very nasty side - but husband and I sat on our balcony on cruise as it was leaving Key West, sipping drinks, and watching several passengers stumble back to dock as ship left. I think it had nothing to do with time zones but more to do with adult beverages consumed in Key West.

I admit we've watched the last minute sprints as well. Haven't joined in the hoots and hollers of encouragement (one hopes encouragement) but have been amazed how many people leave it to the last minute.

So Gail as this was in Key West would you call it the "rum runners rumble" .

The vessels have to clear the berths on time, otherwise they have to pay enormous fines.

Also, there are several thousand other passengers on board. Why should they suffer because of a few people who are late?

Oh yeah, I learned by almost missing the ship in Piraeus (Athens). Metro from city was sllloooowwww. Unbeknownst to us, the ship had been calling our names on the PA. We arrived 5 minutes after we were supposed to be on board (55 minutes prior to sailing). We sprinted around the harbor area. A soon as I stepped aboard, the gangplank was hauled up. Since then (and that was several years ago), hubby and I make sure we are on board at least 1.5 hours prior to sailing. When they say 1 hour prior to sailing, they mean 1 hour prior to sailing.

We've been late a few times but never missed the boat yet. One time was an accident on the highway and the whole bus was getting back late at Cozumel. They held up the ferry at Playa Del Carmen waiting for us. The other time we were spending too much time at the flea market outside the dock in Egypt. When we got back, the ship's purser was outside the pier's security area looking/watching for us. It was a small ship with only a few hundred passengers so the staff recognized us. She spotted us and said hurry. We were the last to board and ship departed immediately after we got on board. That was way too close for comfort and we have not been late since.

The ship had been waiting for her for 40' plus she had to be on the ship 30' before sailing time - she was over 1 hr late!! And he children were on the ship. What sort of emergency kept her?

Her husband was on the same cruise, he left the kids with their uncle and waited for the wife with their passports.

I didn't see the video, but on another forum they said, she had many shopping bags with her. I don't know, somehow I find it difficult to be sympathetic.
