Regardless of what ship you're on, I think paying more to be higher up (assuming the cabin size and ammentities are the same) is a big rip-off. I fell for it before I knew better, like many new cruisers do. I'm with Abram, the lower and more midship the better. Go with the less expensive lower deck cabin which still has a balcony.

i have sailed on the Radisson Diamond, and I was in a Deck 8 Sitting cabin. Our friends were in a Deck 9 Balcony. Their cabin was much smaller than ours, because the balcony took up the space. While it is very nice to have a balcony, the Diamond is so small that you can be outside on deck very quickly, and we were grateful for the extra space and the huge picture window. Also, our cabin was cooler, because the opening and closing of the sliding glass door allowed their cabin to get a little steamy. That said, I would choose a Deck 7 Balcony over the Deck 9 Balcony any day. Either way, the Diamond is a wonderful littel ship. I think you will enjoy the food and the service. Be sure to go to Don Vito's!
