Carnival for Kids

Would anyone recommend cruising on Carnival with 2 kids ages 11 & 12. We were thinking about taking a cruise from Port Canaveral to Bahamas

I can't tell you from experience, but on the cruisecritic website there were many great reviews for carnival's kids programs.

Well, you're talking about the Fantasy and this is my opinion: She is one of the oldest ships in the Carnival fleet. Her decor is right out of the 70' vegas style - you know, the carpeting has this weird pattern to it that forces you to hold onto the walls as your walking down the corridors.

Because the cruises are so inexpensive ($249 for a four night cruise), you attract a much different clientelle than some of the more average cruises. Especially during spring break and the summer when college kids like to gang up and cruise.

Carnival has a reputation for attracting the "hearty party" crowd and thats mostly on their shorter itinerary ships like the Fantasy, Ecstacy, Fascination, etc.

I wouldn't take my kids on a cruise like that if it were free.

P.S. - guess which ships they break their new crew members on?

Earlier replys noted the type of cruiser the Fantasy attracts. They are correct. If you want a GREAT expierence for your kids, look into Disney Cruise. Good program for kids of all ages, excellent food and service, no gambling casino, and even an adults only area including an adults only pool. (for while the kids are in the childrens program) Don't forget the clean shows, the Disney Characters and the ambiance of cruising with FAMILIES like yourself. I loved it. Binserra We have taken our daughter on 3 Carnival cruises during the week she was off for Easter. She was 9, 10, 12 and on the one this Easter she will be 14. We have never had a problem. We are not partiers. We get up around 6:30 or 7:30 and go back to the cabin after the show at around 10:00. We have never heard a cuss word. We have only seen one lady who was tipsy because she sat in the sun drinking all morning. I prefer newer ships, 7 day cruises and I think times when the children are off of school may make a difference in the types of people who are cruising. Darlene

Are you planning to take the Pride? Is that ship still out of Port Canaveral? I really like the new Carnival ships - they are soooooo much better than the older ships. All the adults I know, including my family and myself had a great time on the ship.

My main criticism of the Pride, however, was the children's program. We sailed on Saturday and by the end of the first sea day, Monday, kids were running around the ship bored. There were people on the Pride that stated that they enjoyed the cruise as adults, but their kids had more fun on Disney.

Your kids could have a great time if they like entertaining themselves, but I don't know about the kids program.
