Most of our several decades of travel experiences have been independent...so we opted to do our own thing insofar a possible with this cruise. It also stopped in Victoria where we had been twice before so we stayed on ship and relaxed.

In Juneau we opted to do the trip to Mendenhall Glacier (less than a 30 minute ride from town) by buying $5 tickets on the local bus (a kiosk at the dock offers this). We traipsed around the area and caught another non-stop bus back to Juneau. The museum told us everything we ever wanted to know about the glacier.

In Sitka, we walked from the dock (10 minutes) to the totem pole park and trail (quite serene and beautiful being there alone). Took in the Russian dance show (all women) which was pleasant and colorful)..had a nice lunch in town. Also had stopped at the Raptor Center for a looksee by taking bus back to the town center...we were alone again on the bus and the very friendly Tinglit driver made the stop for us and waited while we did a walk-through). Tipped her generously of course.

In Ketchikan, again, we walked (5 minutes)to infamous Creek Street as you can see by pics, strolled around there and also in town, had a very nice salmon lunch.(The whole town seems to be one big salmon!)

Hope all works out well for you Bruce.
