Alaska cruise trip report picks and pans
DW and I were on Zaandamin August for an Alaska 7-day cruise out of Seattle plus a couple of days on Whidbey Island. Below are our thoughts on the best and worst of the trip:
PICKS
Sandy, the conierge in the Neptune Lounge - an great representative of HAL
Cabin steward on Zaandam
Twisted Fish restaurant in Juneau - it was worth paying for a meal ashore at this spot.
Two Chicks and a Kabob eatery in Sitka.
Ketchikan Charter Boats for salmon fishing.
Cottage on the Cover B&B (but no breakfast) on Whidbey Island.
Christopher's and Oyster Catcher resturants in Coupeville, WA
Steelhead Diner and the Purple Cafe in Seattle.
Smooth, seamless disembarkation process
PANS
HAL's inability to cook a steak to medium rare in several tries
Lines at the Lido buffet
Cold room service food that was supposed to be hot.
Wine steward service in Zaandam's main dining room
Sound View Cafe in Pike Place Market...worst breakfast in years.
Bottom line: Third and least enjoyable cruise with HAL; probably won't be back!
