Traveling to Harbour Island

What is the best route to reach Harbour Island from New York for an early arrival?

A 7am flight gets you to Ft. Lauderdale at 10am. (I fly Southwest from Islip but I'm sure there are early flights from LaGuardia) www.islandexpressairlines.com often has an 11:30 am flight to N. Eluthera. (And if they don't they will add one if enough of you are flying) Taxi from airport to the Water Taxi to Harbour Island should get you to the island by 1:00pm. Haven't found a way to get there from NY any earlier.

There is an early am flight to Nassau from LaGuardia, I think at 7am which gets you there around 10. Check with Bahamas Air on flights into N. Eleuthera, and Sand Piper Air. Also check Continental and US Air they fly into N. Eleuthera as well, not sure of the flight times.

Bahamas Fast Ferries has 2 sailings a day early am and again around noon, it's a 2 hour sailing to N. Eleuthera.

If you want to go early am you might want to fly into Nassau the night before and take the early Bahamas Fast Ferry over first thing in the am. IF so stay overnight at the British Colonial downtown and it's pretty easy to get to the ferry from there.

HOpe this helps.

Thanks for the help. The best way we found to get to Harbour Island early was to take the red eye to Ft Lauderdale and leave on the 9:40 flight in the am which will get us to North Eleuthera at about 10:50 am.

What are the details of your "red eye" flight? Would be great to know!

Mariasch: I don't know where you're at. We are flying out of Laguardia New York at 9:45PM and arriving in Fort Lauderdale Florida at 12:45AM. The drawback is it's an eight hour layover. We will taking Continental Gulfstream airline at 9:40 and arriving at North Eleuthera at 10:50 AM. The aircraft to North Elethera is a nineteen seater (price: $342. RT).
