Tobago in October
I know it is hurricane season. Can anyone tell me how prone Tobago is to hurricanes? Also, does the rain come in short bursts or is it likely we would have a few days of continual rain? Finally, anyone been to the Grafton Beach hotel?

Coco Reef is on a manmade beach.
Neither Grafton Beach nor Le Grand Courlan - next door - are on the water. (Across a road from the water.) Grand Courlan is a bit nicer than Grafton Beach but neither are luxury resorts and the food was not great at either.
May rain some but Tobago is so far south unlikely to be in the path of a hurricane.
The nicest resort on Tobago by far is the new Hilton.
Fiona,
it really depends on what you are looking for in a vacation; both Tobago and Barbados has their pluses and minuses, but you should not let a hotel stop you from visiting an island...do you want to experience the Island or a hotel?
I am sure you will find lots of negtative and positive reports on hotels in Barbados as well, unless you decide to stay at Sandy Lane
.

And Diana, Coco Reef is NOT on amanmade beach, however the owners have sectioned off part of the Store Bay Beach with boulders to create a little "lagoon" and keep the beach private; not a great idea in my opinion as the beach at Store Bay (right next door is fantastic).

The last year Tobago had a hurricane was Flora in 1963 and the sister Island of Trinidad has never had a hurricane.

They extended and widened the beach with over 7000 tons of pre-washed sand. There was a beach there before, but what's there now is very much different and did not get there naturally. Man-made doesn't ahve to mean that it doesn't look and feel like a beach!
