T&C

I am in the process of planning a vacation to T&C. I need some help deciding between two resorts: Beaches and Allegro. I am traveling with my boyfriend and we both like to have a good time and enjoy a cocktail. I am also cuirous to know what type of beer is served at the bars at Allegro last year we traveled to D.R and stayed at allegro and we were disappointed with the selection of just Presidente beer. Thank you for your time

Hello Corinne,
I was just on Provo a few weeks ago.
Beaches has a lot of kids there as they have a big children's program.
No offense, but Provo has sooo many great bars, restaurants and nice properties, I'd never limit myself to an AI there. There are just too many wonderful places to go.
Also, I don't know when you are planning to go, but both of those places seemed pretty crowded to me for off-season... I've read some bad reviews about not being able to get chairs at Beaches.

Hi M.
The Comfort Suites (although not oceanfront, but who spends much time in their rooms anyway?) looked VERY nice.
They were doing some remodeling work to it when we were there, and the place just looks wonderful.
I have heard nothing but really good things about it, and I'm sure you'll be happy there.
We stayed at The Sands and had a great time.
There are some really good restaurants within walking distance of your hotel.
You are going to have so much fun - it's a fantastic island with delightful people.

Hi Matt, There are bunches of places to eat close by.
We liked Cuba Bella, Bella Luna, Barefoots Cafe.
We also heard Calico Jack's is very good.
We had nice facilities at the Sands, so we didn't need to go to any of the other properties.
We went to the casino at Allegro and were disappointed, but we've been to large casinos in the Bahamas and Monte Carlo, so that's not surprising. (We found it small and grubby, though with very friendly employees.)
We saw Beaches and Allegro from the water when we dove and when we went on a catamaran cruise, and they seemed OK but a little too crowded for us.
I read somewhere that it costs $80 for a day pass to Allegro. That seems very high to me. (I don't know if that includes meals or drinks or what.)
All of the gorgeous beaches are public, and you can easily find a stretch of deserted beach for just the two of you.
You can rent a car - it's very easy to find your way around.
There is a large IGA with all of the picnic fixin's you need, and there's also a great wine shop just down the street with top of the line wines and beer at reasonable prices. (I think it's called Discount Liquors.
We packed a cooler with wine and beer, cheese, olives and crackers, and drove to a deserted beach where we spent almost the entire day.
We did that twice and only saw one other couple each time.
It was heaven.
No need to pay when you can have an entire unspoiled beach to yourself for free...

Matt.......my wife and I stayed at the Comfort Suites in February 2002. We absolutely loved it. We had a room with a balconey overlooking the pool. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The staff are very helpful. The Ports of Call next door have three restaurants. The Barefoot Cafe (great), Calico Jacks (very good) and Lattitudes (don't miss Thursday rib night). We also ate at the Tiki Huts behind the Suites, Graces Cottage, and Hemmingways. There were other places too but I can't remember the names. While the CS is not on the beach, the minute walk is no big thing. We did the pirate cave tour around Provo and the cave tour to Middle Caicos. Both were a lot of fun. I would not hesitate to go back to CS in particular or T&C in general.

Matt,
Great restaurants are Coco Bistro(great food and absolutely fantastic romantic place, the grounds used to be an old palm grove/nursery and it is so lovely); Bay Bistro, and the Fairways at the Provo Golf Clubest lobster we have even had and we have eaten alot of lobster in our time), Hemingways(ask for the uncovered outdoor terrace- the stars, the surf, the lights off of the water is a piece of heaven).
Try to drive out to South Dock road, and then turn onto Chalk Sound Drive and drive back around Chalk Sound, it is so beautiful, color of water like you have never seen, truly eye candy. Sapodilla Bay has some good snorkeling, the day we were on that side of island we had a couple of beaches all to ourselves, also Blue Hills Road is a great drive and several beaches to go along there also.
Have a great time,Safe Travel.
