St. Thomas vs Bahamas?

My husband and I are in disparate need of a second honeymoon! Having said this I have been leaning towards St.Thomas and staying at the Ritz Carlton, but just wondering the difference between St Thomas and Bahamas? Any advice or recommendations are welcome!

Hmm...There are several islands comprising the Bahamas. They are in the Atlantic not the Caribbean and are a Commonwealth of the UK. St Thomas is one island (but close to several others), in the Caribbean, US territory so no passport needed for US citizens. What do you want to do with your time?

I love the out islands of the Bahamas; however, if you are also considering some place like the Ritz Carlton on St Thomas (personally, I do not like St. Thomas at all) then I don't think the places I love in the Bahamas would suit you. I would go ahead and ferry from St. Thomas over to St. John for a much more wonderful location (love SJ) , no matter what you choose. Look at the Westin or a vrbo.com villa or condo or, if the budget allows, look at Caneel Bay. Hope you have a great second honeymoon!!

I am not sure what poor ole St Thomas did to you, ishy... ;-)

St Thomas is a totally different destination than the Bahamas. I had hoped the 2nd honeymooners would elaborate on what they were looking for. I am not much of a Ritz fan, I think there are many more down-to-earth spots to consider. But I do agree with ishy, if they are thinking "Ritz-Carlton", the Bahamas are probably not going to be what they are looking for.

St. Thomas and all the US and British Virgin Islands are fabulous. If you go to St. Thomas DO NOT miss eating at Craig and Sally's - it is the BEST!!! It was recommended to us on our 3rd time there and WOW! Also Megan's Bay is awesome!

I have stayed at the Ritz in St. Thomas but it's been a while - 2002. It was beautiful and lovely but there is no beach there. I found myself wishing we had gone to St. John instead - which we did eventually do in 2012 and stayed at the Westin. Caneel Bay is just way over my budget.

I have also been to the Bahamas but only to Nassau. The out islands of Bahamas is still on my list. If you are considering the Ritz, also consider the One and Only Ocean Club in Nassau. It is so wonderful, and not as crazy as the nearby Atlantis, but you have a shuttle bus going back and forth from Atlantis if you like to gamble or do stuff there. It's always nice going back to relax at the One and Only OC. I like that resort better than Ritz or WEstin in US Virgin Islands. But of course, I am a self confessed hotel snob when taking 2nd honeymoons.

Enjoy yourselves whereever you decide.

I do love the Bahamas, but the out islands, not Nassau/Paradise Island. What are you looking for in your vacation? If you are looking for upscale properties but still want a great beach and the budget works then perhaps you should look at Runaway Hill on Harbour Island in the Bahamas? The island is small, you can rent a golf cart and get around to explore if you want or just enjoy the gorgeous beach right out in front of your inn. There are several other very nice places on that same island= just a thought. It might be a romantic little spot for your adventure.
Oh, Eastenderusvi- the iguanas have taken over the island! Hate them and the last time there they were everywhere!!! I do think, however, if I were to return to St. Thomas again I would like Secret Harbor- certainly not a RC but that is not what I go on vacation for- the OP might take a look at it if interested in St. Thomas. Just a tourist rather than a local like you but a well traveled tourist.
I love St John but if I were traveling that far I would rather go on to Virgin Gorda myself.

I love St. Thomas and St. John (I like the Bahamas too).
We stayed at the Marriott in St. Thomas because we took our older kids and their friends - so timeshare was the way to go.

Then I went to St. John and met a friend. Think about that place. Stayed at the Gallow Point Resort - OMG wow!

Both islands had great beaches and snorkeling. Both were easy to navigate. Both had wonderful food.

ST. Thomas - Oceana and Banana tree
St. John - ZoZo's
