St Thomas to Ferry dock

Our family of 4 will be arriving in St Thomas next week with minimal luggage.(one carry-on each)

Can anyone give me an idea of what a taxi will cost from the airport to the ferry terminal in Charlotte Amalie? I understand it's about a 10 minute drive.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Check out this web site for prices/times:

If you are headed to St John, I would highly recommend renting a car on STT. It's very easy, more affordable (in my opinion - based on the people ferry vs car ferry and STT rental prices) and just all-around more convenient.

Our family of 4 has done this for a couple years in a row now and will be doing it again in Oct. We have used Dependable and Discount car rental on STT. I know Amalie Car Rental and Budget also let their cars go to St. John. Food for thought anyway...

Have a great trip!

If you are going to St. John, I'd recommend going to Red Hook instead of Charlotte Amalie for the ferry. It could be a wash in terms of timing with traffic, but generally, I think it's a better deal. The ferry from Red Hook is cheaper and runs more frequently, and it's a lot faster. Since "taxis" in St. Thomas are all shared safari vans, you pay by the person, not by the trip. I'm not sure of the per-person price for the taxi, though.

Thanks all! We'llbe going to Tortola's west end...hence the departure from CA.

Well, that may or may not affect your choice. Ferries to Tortola stop in St. John for customs, so you're going to St. JOhn one way or the other.

http://www.vinow.com/stthomas/gettin..._stt/taxi_stt/
airport to town for 4 approx $25
airport to red hook for 4 approx $45

from the site "•Any person requesting a taxi exclusively for themselves are as follows:
Airport to Red Hook: $90 for 1-4 passengers, (5 or more passengers add $15 for each additional person)."

But there's no point in requesting a taxi solely for the group. Many people will be headed in the same direction, regardless of whether they go to Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook. Why pay the extra (unless they want to stop at a grocery store and do shopping or something like that).

I have done the taxi's many times and can't remember the exact cost, sorry! While you do have to clear customs on STJ on the return from Tortola, on the way to Tortola, you should not have to clear in STJ. The is a US customs in West End Tortola, not sure about Roadtown.

Forgot to mention, make sure you are at the right ferry dock! The is a terminal right near Frenchtown for The BVI's. The ferry to St John leaves directly from the dock, no terminal. The BVI terminal is right by Seaborne Airline. You will sign for The Petite Pumproom above the BVI terminal. Never been in there, but I know that is a little bar, not sure if they have food.
