St. Martin/St. Marteen hotels

My husband and I are planning a trip to St. Martin and would like to know ,if you had a choice of hotels, would you pick La Sammana or Westin and pros and cons of each.

Did you try doing a search on here? I know I've seen a lot of comments about La sammana ( particulary about not being worth it). With all the amazing restaurants, I wouldn't do an all inclusive.

JenJay68- I personally have never stayed at an all inclusive. I'm sure for some people, or on certain islands, it's a great choice. I love food, and I only meant that with all the amazing restaurants on St Martin, that I personally couldn't see being commited to one property for all of my dining.

Odd, I know I've seen comments posted about these hotels, but in searching, it only brings up one response. I feel like in the old format, it would recognize words in the postings, but this new one is only recognizing the title for searches.

Loisg- it's the spelling that's not producing results in the search. La Samanna. Type in search box, and you'll find several mixed reviews.

Loisg, I haven't stayed at either of those properties but I have been to St. Martin a few times. La Samanna does not get good reviews from most people I've talked to who have stayed there. "Past its prime," "terrible service," etc. are some of the comments. I have spent the day on the beach near the hotel and it's okay but not my favorite beach on the island.

As you probably know, the Westin is a pretty new property on Dawn Beach on the Dutch side. Dawn Beach is beautiful but the area is starting to become fairly developed. Between those two properties I would probably choose the Westin simply because it's new and I like Dawn Beach.

I like spending most of my beach time at Orient Beach. It can be crowded, yes, but you can also find some stretches of sand where there is no one. We might be heading to St. Martin in a few weeks where we'll look into staying at the Radisson. The Radisson is currently undergoing a renovation and a switch from a Meridien. It's proximity to Orient Beach, Grand Case and Marigot is the clincher for us.

Jenjay68, I suggest you start a new post inquiring as to all-inclusives. I believe Jamaica has a large number of AIs and might be the place to start your search.

If you want all inclusive, there are only a few hotels on st. Maarten that offer that.
I would suggest that you not do all inclusive on St. Maarten. There simply are too many wonderful places to eat on the island.

I would NOT do an all inclusive on St. Maarten - too many great restaurants to choose from and too much to see during the day - if you want all-inclusives - Dominican Republic, Antigua, St. Lucia, Jamaica or the Bahamas are your best bet.
