Antigua or St. Martin

My boyfriend and I (both 30) have been offered a timeshare for the first week of November for Antigua (through Jolly beach vacations) or St. Martin (Oyster Bay Beach Resort). We wanted to go to the Westin at Grand Cayman, but a little steep in price. Nothing crazy in nightlife required and I like being able to galavant around the island (like Aruba). Advice/suggestions?! TIA!

Hello!

Two wonderful islands to chose from - in previous recent posts please do not be put off by poverty and Antigua - among people who really frequent the islands and invest time and knowledge in the islands Antigua is NOT known for havig a real poverty issue. It is quite a financially successful island.

Aside from that I have not been to Antigua in several years...I did love it the two times I have been there. I did recently go to SXM...and discovered many interesting things about it. I had been in the past but this time I found changes. I stayed on the french side of the island and was shocked to discover how much of the "Caribbean" had diminished and how much of "Europe" had taken over. For me this is not 100% what I am looking for as I ADORE the CARIBBEAN as in WEST INDIES!! So being in SXM with its distinct Europe feel threw me off...but it is a lovely island with a great deal of shopping and fun places to go and see and do all kinds of good things! We stayed at L'Hoste in Orient Village and it was crazy fun with everything in walking distance and sensational food _one of theperks to being overrun by Europe is the food was to DIE for!! If you want intensive passionate information about this great island try www.traveltalkonline.com in the St. Martin forum - these people are SERIOUS!! And really helpful! Have fun either way - great choices for you...

Oyster Bay is in a good location if you are not into night life, and St. Martin is not difficult to get around. It beats Antigua for restaurants and shopping. The Dutch side is pretty much Americanized and touristy, but the French side has still a French Caribbean atmosphere.
St. Martin is the correct term for the French side and generally for the island as a whole, although the proper name for the Dutch side is St. Maarten. I don't know where St. Marteen comes from.

The resort for St. Martin is on Oyster Bay which apparently is on the Atlantic side...is this not necessarily good-water wise I guess is main "concern" (conern being put lightly!)?

not sure what you mean by not good water wise.
the Atlantic side is always rougher but the beach at Oyster Pond is one of the nicest beaches on the island
