St Kitts place to stay needed

Family emergency requires a quick trip to St. Kitts on Wed. We will be flying in from the states via Miami, arriving mid-afternoon. Need hotel, B&B. small house, or apartment for a couple for 5 nights. Cheapo and/or central is fine as long as it is safe and clean, but nice would be ok too, In the sitation, we would like to be comfortable. Family member has car, but we might need to rent a car - any recs? Would taxis be easier and cheaper?
I have some books to read to give myself a quick education, and am pretty good at acclimating to new places, but would appreciate any advice anyone can think of that would be helpful to to elderly people new to the island.

DD will have surgery at the larger hospital there - Dr is surgen Cameron Wilkinsen. Does anyone know anything about him other than the formal bio listing credentials?

We've traveled in Europe, but only a cruise in the islands, so any advice or info you might throw out is most appreciated.

Not sure what "Cheapo" means to you but check out the following:

Bird Rock Hotel
Ocean Terrace Inn
Timothy Beach Resort
St. Christopher's Club

Also, if you go to the St. Kitts Forum on Trip Advisor and click on "St. Kitts Hotels" you'll find a complete list of all, including a few guest house, with reviews and prices. That will help you decide where to stay.

Rent a car, it will be less expensive than taking taxis. FYI - you'll pretty much find that car rental prices are essentially the same no matter who you rent from. You'll find a list of car rental agencies here: http://www.discover-stkitts-nevis-be...-agencies.html One more point, this website also gives you a link to a list of hotels, etc.

Can't help you with a background on the doctor. I don't want to scare you but most ex-pats and some locals go off island to have surgery. Your DD may not have that luxury since you referred to it as being an "emergency" so best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thanks so much. I tried to convince DD to come to states - no changing her mind about that. She got so agitated, I gave up. Thanks also for advice about car rental. I was feeling so rushed, and trust personal opinions. Think I have a hotel arranged. Thanks again.

Sunfish & RoamsAround, We ended up at the Marriot because a family member had some credit for there. It was nice, but pricy if we had needed to get it for ourselves. We looked at the outside of Ocean Terrace Inn and would stay there next time. The pool was pretty. DD's surgery went well, thank goodness, now waiting for test results. Thank you both for your advice.

BTW, loved St Kitts, would love to move there.

Sassafrass, glad your trip went well. Friends and family have stayed at Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) for years. It's a nice place to stay if you don't mind being away from the beach.
