Hi Sillymom

I've never been to St John but from what I've read there are very few villas directly on the beach or water, with the exception of some pretty pricey ones on the north shore or the resorts. Caneel Bay resort is located directly on several beaches and that was my first plan. But we loved the idea of having a place all to ourselves. Plus, renting the villa was much less than Caneel.

The villa we chose is located up above the bay at Chocolate Hole and we will be driving to the beaches. I picture us exploring different beaches and bays in the morning and then relaxing by the pool at the villa in the afternoon.

I am excited about the villa we chose. My original wish was to stay at $2200 / wk or less but I really liked Southern Cross so I was willing to go a bit more ($2800 I think?) After all, it is our honeymoon!!

I can't imagine- even with the price of groceries being considerably more there- that it would not be more economical to have a villa and be able to eat at least breakfast and lunch there.

We just returned from a week's vacation at a beach resort near Charleston SC and we had 4 teenagers with us. We had a condo and loved the convenience - and economics- of having brkfst/lunch/snacks/drinks there instead of buying everything out.

Good luck with your plans!

My husband and I just returned from celebrating out 11th wedding anniversary and we stayed in LOST HORIZON!!! The place was AMAZING! We felt like movie stars in that house. The view was spectacular, the space was wonderful and the experience was more than we ever hoped for. The privacy was a big issues for us and this house was perfect for that. Get dressed before going to the pool? Nah... The open floor plan provided for a lot of breeze and we never wanted for air conditioning outside of the bedroom. One recommendation, however, do NOT go to Duffy's Love Shack and have a bunch of drinks on your first night unless you have driven to and from the villa a couple of times (at least once in the dark)....the drive to the villa looks VERY different at night (with a few drinks on board) than it does during the day We HIGHLY recommend the villa and Great Carribean Getaways (the management company). This place rocks!

My family loved Bamboo Villa. We must, we have stayed there twice. Sorry christiegr didn't like it, but it was a great set up for my family and for the price it was an excellent deal. We have been to St. John over 20 times and stayed at many villas. Guess it all depends on what you like. Bamboo was perfect for us. Can't wait to go back!
God luck Crest332...you will have a wonderful honeymoon!

The views from Bamboo were wonderful..but it was very very hot when we went.My opinion of Bamboo might have been different if I had stayed there when it was Winter time and not so hot.Glad that you enjoyed it!

HI! Me and my husband just got back from our honeymoon in the virgin islands. We rented a villa through a company called Caribbean Villas. Go to Caribbeanvilla.com and check out their villas. They have about 100 atleast. Hope this helps!

KGindy: Pray tell us more! Some of us on this board are rabid St. John lovers and would love to hear your experiences. Which villa did you stay in? Any interesting, particularly enjoyable aspects of your stay?
