St. John Car Rentals

Just reserved a car at O'Connor Rental Agency at the Westin St. John. Their rates sound high--$75/day. But, when you realize that the rate includes tax and gas then it is a pretty good bargain. They fill up the tank and you never have to get gas. It's fantastic! Plus, you pick it up and drop it off at the Westin (convenient if you are staying there). Is there something I'm missing--is this as good as it seems?

Hay Vacationer,

I just booked a car rental through O'Connor yesterday and they gave me a rate of $70/day (I spoke to Kenny if that helps). We ended up getting it for a week - we will be there for 9 days starting NEXT WED!!! Cannot wait, we are sick of the East Coast snow (getting more tonight)!

I looked into some other rental car agencies, all seemed to be in the $65+ range. I went for the convenience since we are staying at the Westin.

I did not realize that that price includes tax and gas - woohoo, even better!

Don't be suprised if when you return your jeep that they expect a full tank in return. Our experience has been that you get it with a full tank and are required to return it with a full tank. If not, you will have it billed per gallon on your bill at a higher rate. You may want to check.

We rented a Suzuki Sidekick from Monday afternoon to Saturday morning from Conrad Sutton in Cruz Bay for $315 total. Gas wise, we only put in $15 the whole week and we were staying in Coral Bay and driving around quite a bit every day. Hope this is helpful.

Mlmbkbc: We could have gotten the $70 rate for a softtop jeep, but we wanted a hardtop so we could leave our valuables in it. The hardtop (Jeep Cherokee) was $75/day. You may want to consider changing your reservation. I guess we will be arriving the same day you are leaving!

As for the gas issue, I confirmed with Ms. Samuel (the head honcha) that we do not need to pay for gas or put any gas in the car. We'll see--I don't expect that we will use that much gas anyhow.
