St. John Rental Car

Looking for best spot to reserve rental car in Cruz Bay. Have rented from Delbert (?) before on rec from this website but that was a few years ago and no one seems to mention his company any longer. Is there a better option?

Thanks

You are referring to Delbert Hill. His rental company still continues to receive positive reviews on USVI On-line as do most St. John rental companies. We rented from Courtesy and were satisfied with them especially when we needed to replace a Jeep Liberty with a bad transfer case towards the end of our trip. Most visitors look for a company that allows parking on their lot while in Cruz Bay. As with any rental, carefully review the vehicle for damage prior to signing the agreement.

Cio457, we've rented from Delbert Hill twice in the past 2 years and have been pleased. His rates are competitive with everyone else's on the island. It's an short, easy walk from the ferry too.

Cool Breeze is another option.
$55/day.

I know, EVERYONE says rent a 4WD on St John and explore. Anyone have any experience with their public transportation? What I have read is that it is $1 to Coral Bay or Salt Pond but not very reliable. However, we will not be on a tight schedule. We understand Caribbean time. The plan is to stay in Cruz Bay and venture from there. Any thoughts appreciated.

There is public bus transportation but why waste precious island time waiting for a bus? Additionally it doesn't allow access to all of the places that 4WD does.

To add another wrinkle--I have tried to rent a car for 3 days in early March and have had comments like "we are holding our cars for weekly bookings". I wonder if this will last or will things loosen up as March approaches.

Lee, I doubt it. March is High season in STJ and cars are premium there.

They know they'll be able to rent the cars for longer periods of time they don't have to take shorter term rentals.

After April 15th, things change, but until then it's busy there.
