Water's Edge Hotel - Vieques?

Hello:

We are considering this hotel on Vieques. We are looking for a nice hotel with AC and a television. This appears to be the only hotel on Vieques that has a tv and ac. (not sure about Inn on the Blue Horizon).

Does anyone know this hotel?

Thanks!

Not sure about Water's Edge, but I was recently on www.wheretostay.com and there was a write-up about the other hotel you mentioned, The Inn on the Blue Horizon.....here's the link if you want to check it out: http://puertorico.wheretostay.com/property/381-reviews.html
hmmm, I thought I stayed at a Hotel called Water's Edge in Vieques many yars ago, but I just did a search and this Water's Edge looks a lot better. Trip Advisor has some positive reviews.

My only recommendation is to find out the exact location. I think that it is located in the main town, near the ferry, which is the opposite side of Esperanza, where most of the restaurants and the public beach is. However, if you rent a car, the location of the hotel does not matter.

Is the ferry to Vieques a passenger only, or can you drive over?

In response to cfsax_ny's question.... I've heard that the ferry to Vieques from Fajardo can accomodate automobiles....however, I've also heard that you can not bring a rental car over for insurance reasons. I don't know who it is that enforces that. Sounds a little strange to me. You may want to contact the Puerto Rico Tourism Bureau for addt'l information. Their web site is www.gotopuertorico.com

Regarding bringing a car in the ferry - mcbrandt has given you the best option which is to contact the Tourism Bureau directly.

Here is what I know about the ferry to Vieques:
1) You cannot bring a car in the passenger ferry, only in the cargo ferry.
2) You need to make advance reservations for the cargo ferry and give them the license plate number of the car.
3) The cargo ferry does not run during the weekends.
4) Automobiles in the cargo ferry may be 'bumped' if they need to fill the ferry with other important cargo (i.e., you are not guaranteed that the car will get on the ferry).

All in all, I don't think it's worth the hassle to try to bring a car over to Vieques.

Seems like it is best to rent a car in San Juan until I am ready to go to Vieques, and drop the car off in Fajardo. Take the passenger ferry and rent a car in Vieques. Now I just need to find a rental company with sites in San Juan and Fajardo.

I was in Vieques a couple months ago. I called around and Avis will let you pick up a car in San Juan & drop it off in Fajardo. There may be others, but several I called would not allow it.

To rent a car in Vieques, check out this web site and click on car rental. They are all small companies.

http://www.vieques-island.com/geninfo.shtml#car

Be sure to reserve the car & a biobay trip in advance. Have a great trip!
