We are fortunate to have visited the island seven times since March 2006 (number eight coming Thanksgiving). That trip started a twice year love affair with the island . Other than a couple of new suggestions, I give recommendations for those that are consistently good.
Also, while we certainly love good food, it can get too fancy for us, so these might better be described as "average joe" type places. If you are looking for higher end dining reviews, I'm not your girl
Now you just need tips on where to go, what to do I want to mention that the store at Gallow's Point is wonderful!!! We always stock up on a few breakfast items there. The prices are definitely comparable to the other markets and you can buy just a few of things there, ie 1/2 dozen eggs, few bagels etc. They have great onion bagels, yum! GP also provides a complimentary gallon of water, pint of rum and two "Tings".
Let me know if you have any other questions. Dang, I want to go back, now!! I will have to bide my time until Thanksgiving, sigh...

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials and honeymoon.
STJ is well covered so I'll focus on Tortola. First and foremost, think of Long Bay as your home base from which you will explore Tortola. There is waay too much to see, do, eat so don't tuck yourself in at LBBR. Rent a car from Jerry (West End, he'll pick you up at the ferry) for around $55/day. Long Bay is an easy 10 min drive from there.
Long Bay beach is very rocky directly infront of LBBR. If you go about 50 yds to the west, it's all sandy bottom and nice. Smuggler's Cove is 5 min west of LBBR (by car) and a favorite of many.
LBBR is fine for breakfast but don't buy a meal plan. There are lots of far better places to eat fairly close.
If you're itchin for a day trip, the ferry from West End to Jost Van Dyke is real easy and White Bay on JVD is one of the best beaches on earth.

brenandg..."average joe" is more our style. Sorry you have to wait until November but at least hurricane season will be over. Also, Gallows Point e-mailed they will be renovating while we are staying but I'm not to concerned. I think it's more remodeling like you had experienced last year not actual building. Either way it was nice of them to let us know ahead. I get a little more excited every day!
dtstahl--Thanks for the Tortola info. We will be taking a day trip to JVD as well as Virgin Gorda. Do we need to rent a car on either of these islands or can we just grab a taxi? Also, how do I reach Jerry for pick-up, and should we take the extra insurance when renting a car? Can't wait!

No, you don't have to worry about actual building, Gallow's Point is long completed in that regard. I think the resort is getting some much needed updates. The noise by no means should be intolerable. We really weren't around much during the day anyway.
As for your question about Jost Van Dyke, no, you do not need to rent a car at all. When the ferry arrives at Great Harbor, get yourself a taxi. They will be waiting at the dock for the ferry, but quickly disperse after that. Have them take you to White Bay for $5pp each way. We always arrange for them to pick us back up to get to the ferry on time. Make sure to get to the ferry about 15 minutes early.
I've read mixed opinions about renting a car on Virgin Gorda for a day trip. I guess it just depends if you want to explore the island or just hang around The Bath's area.
