Spanish Wells ?? Eleuthera ??

We will be staying in Harbor Island and were thinking about a day trip to Spanish Wells or Eleuthera - has anyone been there lately ? Is it worth the time and cost ? I heard that you can rent a car on Eleuthera - do you need one or can we just walk around ? Any help will be appreiciated !

I would do Eleuthera-Spanish Wells is more of a "working island", whereas Eleuthera has plenty to explore. The beaches are hidden and sometimes hard to find, so you might even want to consider hiring a taxi with guide--while expensive, you get a good portion of it seen, without wasting time. I've used Royal, he knows all the terrific hidden beaches, and stops at Glass Bridge (one side is cliffs with crashing waves, other side super calm, separated by a single lane bridge) There are also some coral pools. He can stop you at Goulding Cay Beach, which is stunning (you'd never find it on your own) Rainbow Beach, and Club Med Beach-all stunning. You can eat lunch at Tippy's, which is also on a nice beach, and go through Governor's Harbour. Keep in mind, Eleuthera is very long-takes about 4 hours from 1 end to another without stopping! Add that beaches are hard to find, and I personally would pay Royal to take you. Just to let you know, it's probably around $250-$300 for this. He'll meet you at the water taxi dock-he's really a good guy.

Royal on Eleuthera--

Trying to find his card, I may have to get back to you, although there are others you can hire, ask your resort on Habour Island, they can find someone for you.

Spanish Wells just requires a golf cart.
