San Juan luxury hotel?

My husband and I are stopping for 2 nights on our way further south. Looking for a beautiful beach resort with pretty pool and nice accomodations.Any suggestions near the San Juan airport? We won't leave the resort and number one priority would be nice rooms.
Thank you.

You could consider the Ritz Carlton or the Wyndham El San Juan. Both are less than 10 minutes from the airport.

Both Ritz and wyndham El San Juan are nice places but if I had to choose between the two would be El San Juan Wyndham. For two reasons: a MUCH MORE beautiful place (what a decor!) You may not find that anywhere in the Caribbean. Second reason is the airplane noise at the Ritz. The Ritz is literally next to the airport so you definitely hear the plane coming in and out. But if you're looking for less crowd, go with the Ritz. The Wyndham is always packed! Hope this helped.

df50 - You need to make a decision. You can either be near the San Juan airport OR be at a resort, but not both. San Juan is a city and the hotels there are exactly that - hotels not resorts. There isn't enough 'space' to accomodate the acres of a resort in the middle of a city. You will leave the resort the minute you step into the beach (no vendors though). The higher room categories at El San Juan would be the best choice if you want to be near the airport (5 minutes away).

If you want a 'resort' experience in which you don't have to leave the resort, then I recommend staying at the Hyatt, the Westin or the Conquistador. Again, if the room is important book a higher room category (e.g., beachfront at the Hyatt, Las Casitas at the Conquistador). These resorts are about 1 hour from the San Juan airport.

I agree with Mariarosa's comments. SJ hotels are hotels not the resort experience. If you want a resort experience it wouldn't be in SJ, it would be outside of SJ. There is a new Intercontinental on Cayo Largo - south of the rainforest. Though I've never been there, the Intercontinental in SJ is known for its excellence in service and I can attest to that.

if you are only stopping for two nights i would recommend staying in san juan. the Wyndham El San Juan is amazing. this place is a resort. the tropical grounds are the most beautiful i have seen. i did not stay there but i visited it and wished i stayed. i have seen many resorts on many islands and this property is one of the nicest.

The ElSan Jaun we found to be as wonderful on the outside and in the very grand lobby, the wonderful porch for meals, etc., but the room we had was less than it should have been...it definitely needed some refurbishing.

Although El San Juan is one of my favorites, the rooms are nicer at the Ritz Carlton - unless you really want to splurge and upgrade to one of the ocean suites. You also might want to consider a Club Level room at the Ritz Carlton. The rooms are basically the same as the other rooms but gives you access to the lounge which has 5 food and beverage presentations every day.
