safety in beach cottage
Hi, my husband and I(we are in our 50's) are thinking of a 4 day visit to Negril in one of the resorts that has beach cottages. Country, Country, Kuyaba, Nirvana, Whistling Bird Cottages all look very nice. After reading some of the posts I'm wondering how safe these little beach cottages would be.The websites do all mention security. Does anyone have any experience with any of these resorts? Also, is noise from the bars an issue at night? Thanks so much, Summer

I've stayed at Nirvana and Whistling Bird (Nirvana with my kids/family). Both have security 24 hours (during the day at Nirvana the beach guard's presence kept anyone from trying to sell us stuff, unless we indicated we wanted to see/buy, which was nice). At WB (or any beach property), simply sitting back on the beach a bit keeps salespeople away as well (though I must say having everything from fresh OJ to a coconut to lobster delivered to your beach chair is not a bad thing!)
Nirvana and WB don't have public restaurants or bars so no one not staying there is on the property, except guests, who they screen.
Kuyaba and Country Country have public bars/restaurants (and both quite good, may I say). CC has new owners, I hear, and I haven't been by since that changed.
Noise might occasionally be a problem at Whistling Bird from the resort next door, Fun Holiday, which is THE Spring Break place in March and has live music once or twice a week...but we didn't find it a problem, it didn't go that late. There's a disco across the street but our cottage was close to the beach and we didn't hear that at all.
Kuyaba has a live music place next door as well, and Country Country is not far from Margaritaville.
But the beach bars end their live music by 11 or 12.

Try posting at www.negril.com message board. I have seen several posts about these properties there. Many people posting are local or repeat visitors & will give you the straight story. Liza's opinion is one that I think you'll find repeated. Negril is a great place. Be sure & make it to 3 Dives to eat lobster & watch the sunset!

Ditto on 3 Dives, truly a special place, in the slow-service, picnic tables, great food for a great price, killer sunset view and bonfire at night kind of way.
It ain't fancy but their grilled lobster and jerk chicken are not to be missed.
The owners are great too, they took us under their wing years ago and now we feel like thier place is our backyard - and I keep hearing the same from many other people so it's not us, it's them
I like the place so much I made them a web site as a gift a couple of years ago: www.maherconsulting.com/3dives
