running trails in Aruba?
My husband and I love to jog. I know from the past that jogging in the sand is not a good thing! We are staying in the low-rise area. Are there paths or a place to run from there? I appreciate any info.

You might want to also post this message on www.Aurba.com. Someone should know the answer. My guess is that you may want to make sure the place you are staying at has an air conditioned work out room with more than one treadmill.

Julieann -- I've only stayed in the high rise section, and there wasn't much to offer in the running/jogging path area. There was a paved sidewalk that runs in front of the hotels, but I doubt it was even a mile in length and I was dodging people walking along the path the whole way. Additionally, with the wind in Aruba, it doesn't make for a great run. I tried to run outdoors once and it was so windy that I opted for the rest of the trip to run on the treadmill in the hotel. While I love the wind while laying on the beach (it keeps you cool), it's not great when you are running into it! Hope this helps!

I'm not aware of any bike or jogging paths in the area, although there are hiking trails in the national park.
I would look for the most detalled street map you can find (we bought a good one at Barnes & Noble) and try running on some of the less-traveled streets east of the hotel area.
The drivers are mostly polite and not as aggressive as you'll find on many other islands. It does get HOT when you move inland from the beach.

We used to walk every morning in Aruba, and we often shared the path with joggers. Here's where we went...
At the end of the high rise area, after the Wyndham and Aruba Phoenix, there is a path that starts through an execise area. It ends at the main road, but up there there is (was) a wide firm shoulder, so we could easily walk side by side. The next area was the only problem... down by La Cabana they've arranged it so that the beach comes right up to the road. This isn't very far, but its annoying because you either have to walk on the side of the road, or the sand. After this short area, there is a public beach that has roadways in it that are fine for walking/jogging. This takes you to the Costa Linda and the beginning of the low rise area, where we would turn around.
If you coming from the low rise area, you could always do this in reverse.
Aside from the area in front of La Cabana and the two resorts on each side of it, its a very nice route.
