No specific questions, but I am looking forward to your trip report! We will be going to Aruba in January, and staying at the Bucuti. We have stayed there before but that was at least 8 years ago. So far I have read only good things about the Bucuti but of course I am interested in all and any comments, the more recent the better.

Keely,

4 more weeks and we are Aruba bound.

We are staying at Bucuti for part of the time.

Did you eat at the bucuti restaurants; we have the dining plan while we are there. I think it is a dine-around plan.

Is there plenty of shade available at the beach (hubby not a sun worshiper like myself)?

Do they supply beach towels?

What category room did you have? Location? Any areas better than others?

thanks,

janet

Janet - To answer your questions one by one:

Did not choose dine-around plan because you're limited to appetizer, entree, dessert, coffee. We like to be more flexible with menu choices. Often order meal of all appetizers & are not dessert eaters.

Beach is huge and has separate umbrella-type trees just the right size to provide enough shade for a couple. Shadiest ones are under the palm trees. We are sun lovers too but stayed in the shade except when swimming. Bucuti provides 2 beach towels at beginning of your stay and if you don't return them before leaving, you're charged $30. You can exchange them for fresh ones as needed.

Saw all room categories: bungalow, suite, and deluxe, and superior. Personally I prefer a corner room. Did not like the suite (2nd & 3rd floor only) because the sitting room is actually a large kitchen, the bed faces it, and it did not have a relaxing feel. Spacious, though. Also was not that crazy about the bungalows - rooms seemed a little cramped, although the patios are great. There really isn't a bad room at Bucuti. Even the rooms facing the garden are peaceful. The rooms in the corner on the beach side of the hotel are considered deluxe, even the ones on the side. And yes, you can see the beach from the ground floor. All have private balconies (or patios on ground floor). The rooms are not luxurious at all, almost like a motel room, especially the bathrooms, but very clean, comfortable, and decent sized with plenty of closet & drawer space. Bucuti is so nice that you'll feel good no matter what room you stay in.

I'm still in the process of composing my trip report where I'll have much more detail about the rooms. Feel guilty because I just haven't had the time to finish it & post it yet, but I will soon. Meanwhile you can email me privately at [email protected] if you have any more Qs.
