My husband and I are planning our first trip away after having our first child. We are looking to go somewhere to relax and tend to like boutique hotels that are private and romantic. Fine dining is very important to us. Suggestions on an island and hotels would be appreciated. We are both 29, but for this trip do not need elaborate nightlife.

When are your dates of travel and what is your general budget? Are there any activities (hiking, birding, scuba, culture) which particularly interest you? Do you want to stay on a resort or do you prefer to go out to dine?

If you don't mind some lengthy travel, the Grenadines offer pristine waters and small, less-developed islands, but with lovely accommodations. Petit St Vincent and Palm Island are two alternatives that I would recommend for your consideration. My wife and I also very much enjoyed Nisbet Plantation on Nevis.

We experienced magic on Palm island in the Grenadines. Think you would enjoy it as well. Very memorable and such a pleasure to be able to spend some time on a priavte island. The evenings are very low-key. They have musicians that come every night. You fly into Union Island and then take a one mile boat ride from there over to Palm Island.

You don't say how long you are going for or where you are traveling from which definitely has an impact on where you should choose. our two all-time favorite, very romantic, "boutique-style" resorts are Galley Bay on Antigua and Nisbet Plantation Beach Club on Nevis. GB is an upscale adults-only resort, easier to get to because there are more direct flights to Antigua. Nisbet is more difficult because you have to fly into St. Kitts and take the ferry or a private water taxi, but it is a charming, former plantation on the beach with only about 30 rooms and breakfast and dinner included. Usually not too many kids unless you go over holidays or in the summer (I mention that because when we travel without our children, the last thing we want is to be surrounded by others!) Food is great at both. There are some great sales for GB.

I would also recommend Grand Cayman. My husband and I had a two week honeymoon there and it was THE BEST. There are plenty of good eats there and the hotels (aside from the Ritz) are not that big. The beach is pristine. We loved to go there for many, many years.

I would definitely choose Anguilla. For hotels look into Cap Juluca, Cuisinart, Malliouhana. Frangipani. Lots if excellent upscale restaurants on Anguilla

I highly recommend Montpelier Plantation on Nevis. It is truly a lovely experience. Great food, wonderful staff and a beautiful setting. Then there is Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda. Once again, great food but also a total seclusion from the outside world (no roads).
