Rockhouse-Bugs?, Specials?
i looked through several rockhouse posts, but didn't see the answers to these questions...
in the pics on their site, they have mosquito netting over the beds. is this functional? my fiancee is highly allergic to several bug bites, so it's more than a convenience issue.
second, are there specials offered? the daily rates are just a bit high for us, considering there are no meals included.

I believe the mosquito nets at RH are functional, but they do have AC in the villas now so I suppose you can seal it up if needed. I haven't been bothered by mosquitos there much, it's nothing like the midwest in summertime.
RH is almost always booked up way in advance so I've not seen specials offered. But they do have "regular" rooms in addition to the villas - those are a lot less.
Xtabi is similar to RH in many ways and in the same area, might be less $.
Blue Cave Castle is an EXCELLENT budget choice, the penthouse suite is unbelieveable - 3 floors with multiple sundecks all for you - only like $100 a night. Other very nice, large rooms are more like $60.
Both have web sites.
Meals in Negril are as expensive as you want them to be - we ate at Rockhouse and paid about $30pp incl a drink or two and appetizer, 3 Dives down the road can get you 3 lobsters with rice, peas and callalloo, a 1/4 jerk chicken and a couple of beers for about $10 each. www.maherconsulting.com/3dives
You'd be in easy walking distance to lots of meal choices from Xtabi, Blue Cave or Rockhouse.

thanks sooo much. i really like the sound of this place, and if we can pull off cheap airfare, i think we could be very satisfied with this. do you think $600 would be enough for a weeks' meals at variably priced places?
i'll check out those others, too.

That's just under $100 a day right? Certainly do-able.
I wrote a thing on prices (and Negril in general) for a group that went down last year, it might help you plan your food budget:

LIZA,
thanks again. wow, just checked out BCC, and it looks like another possiblity...maybe not as nice, but a penthouse with multiple sundecks for $80/night! amazing. regardless of which place we choose, i think it will be somewhere on the cliffs. looks so unique, and that trip report made it sound like an absolute blast...already making mental notes(Famous Vincent, banana marmalade, LTU, Ricks, etc.)
