RITZ-Montego: 1niteonly;Please advise
Hi there!! My fiance and I are honeymooning in Grenada in Sept. and flying back on Air Jamaica. We MUST overnight in Montego Bay, Jamaica and would like some help/advice from anyone who has stayed at the Ritz Carlton in M.Bay. (LU- I've read your report, and would like to hear from you too).
We are a late 30's professional couple who needs to stay 1 night in Jamaica. We want the best, here are my questions:
1. What is the best/safest way to get from MB airport to the Ritz? How much is a transport coach (our Travel Agent mentioned this for 35.00 per person, round trip????) How much would a taxi cost.?
2. Since we will be there one night only, should be go for an ocean view room or is the garden view just as nice.? How tall is the hotel buildings? Any way to espy some photos? Again, are all room locations safe? We are not freak-safety paranoids or anything, and I hope I am not conveying that...but you know how reading so many posts get make you feel a bit worried.!!!
3. I know it is the Ritz, and therefore pricey, however, would anyone recommend paying for an "A.I." for just one night, or are we better off with the a la carte. (We are NOT big eaters, just happy with a nice dinner, lite breakfast and a few good cocktails in the evening) We land in MBay at 3:30pm and would fly out at 5:30pm the next day. We will be happy to just walk along and swim in the ocean. Is it nice? Any comments about the rooms, bathrooms, what dinners to order etc would be appreciated.
Also, We need to book this within the next 4 days, so feel free to email me w/ your HONEST opinions. As always, fodorites are so very helpful to one another. Thankyou, Betsy & Doug

Hi Betsy-also stayed there for one night like you will. We went for Garden view but wish it would have faced in toward the pool area(this is prob. ocean view) so I would say go ocean. Don't know how $ the AI option is-we didn't have it and weren't aware of it.
If you request the 5th floor (top) you will need to use your key in the elevator to access the floor. Ask for this-I always request a high floor for view purposes and the security of the floor was a bonus.
Rooms were heaven. Bathroom amazing. Lots of kids in the pool area, beach small but okay.
You'll have a great night there-can't tell you where to dine at night since we had a 6am flight and ate in our room. Have a great time.

Definitely do the AI. Entres run 30-50 bucks. Eat at either the White Witch or Jasmines. Both excellent. For one night would probably do the WW. Awesome view. Get reservations prior to going and try for 6:30-7pm for a great sunset. Another thought, maybe do the WW for lunch and Jasmines for your evening meal (no view at Jasmines though). Both have music. Safety...no problem. Transport...the Ritz has a beautiful lounge in the airport and will transport you in style (but does cost 35.00/rt). Cab is much cheaper and probably ok. Service is so gracious. No attitudes there. You will wish you could stay longer....have fun.

Thanks to everyone for the responses, ideas etc. Very helpful.
To LU: Booked the AI today and will make reservations per your advice. I think WW sounds great for our dinner.
The following day, we must leave at approx. 3:00 or 3:30pm (I am guessing) as we fly out of MB at 5:30pm. So, we will look forward to a nice breakfast and lunch as well. Do you recall if WW has a good selection of fish entrees?
Can't wait to go. ( By the way, we chose to book the 35.00 pp transfers with RC. ) Thank you again for your expeditious reply. Betsy

The lime lobster is good at the WW. They also have an excellent seafood soup. Breakfast is at Horizons and is a buffet, no big deal. I would suggest room service served on your balcony. Lunch at Mango's by the pool or Horizons (about the same) or for casual, the jerk shack on the beach (real Jamaican food). Have fun.
