I have to ask! What difference does it make if Tweedy is connected to the Bahamas. The information she gives is accurate, based on years of travel to the bahamas, and from the heart.

I, too, have connections to the Ministries in the bahamas (I have many friends/acquaintances in the political arena, even the Prime Minister who grew up with my S/O). I also sit on the board of an organization in NY to help the underpriveledged and poor throughout the caribbean. Does that mean my advise is not valid?
I'm currently living in Nassau. Why would you discount my advice because of a relationship with the govt?
I've visited here (and many other islands)for 20 years as a tourist, does that change the truth.
I post regularly to help people find accomodations/dining/tours/transportation and other information as does Tweedy.
Noone is twisting your arm to agree, it's just information.

Oh boo hoo, how will the rest of us ever sleep at night due to the fact that a small handful of people are leaving the site? Give me a break!! Personally, there will ALWAYS be a new influx of posters to this site. So to those that are leaving because of the registration, don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Unfortunately, I too will leave the Fodor's board due to their policy which states that Fodors and their subsidiaries can use my email address for marketing purposes..can you say SPAM!! It does sadden me as I have always found this board informative and at times amusing. There were some very good contributors. But, I will not subject myself to SPAM!

Also I think that Fodors has let the torment of Tweedy go on for too long. They could have nipped that quite easily by tracing the ISP, notifying the persons provider and taking disciplinary actions but it looks like they chose not to as evidenced by the posts a few up from this one. There is fun and teasing but this thing with Tweedy seems to have turned into a personal vendetta gears towards Tweedy and her companion and has nothing to do with travel.

Happy travels to all!

Thank you Deborah and GM!
I've also gotten a lot out of many posts.
I've really enjoyed reading the thoughts and impressions of others, and it's sad, but I really think this will change the whole feel and flavor of the board.
Maybe if it does not go as they hope, fodors will change their minds. We'll see.
Best of luck and best wishes to everyone, and enjoy your Caribbean travels!

I think the success of this change will depend on the archives. If the archives remain intact, this board will survive registration, and even improve. If the change results in the loss of the massive archives here, it might dwindle away. There was a popular web site traveltalk.com that lost their archives to a server crash, and they never recovered when they came back with new software that required registration.

I come here for the extensive archives (especially the Europe board) where I can look up obscure information, plus the high traffic which the other boards rarely match. Hopefully things don't get too boring with the change. People who think trolling will stop may be in for a big surprise.

Let's just hope fodors.com doesn't turn into a frommers.com, which requires registration and has so little traffic and archives that it is really the Death Valley of the major net travel boards.

Spam is only an issue if you use your primary email address. Most of us who use lots of different forums have multiple free email accounts that we rarely bother to login to, so spam is not really an issue unless you make it one.

I tried to register but the name I have been using for over 3 years was taken. I am undecided about doing it now because I have read that several identies with real names and email addresses (supposedly not to be revealed unless you put it in your message) have been published on this website by someone.

I would just like to say I am truly in my early 50's and I have enjoyed this forum. Some of you are really funny, and your replies have been hysterical. I have had many laughs. It is a shame for some who have used vulgar language, (which I have not enjoyed) and been downright nasty has created the need for registration. If it improves for the better, that so be it. That is how it has to be. For the the trolls as you refer to it, they have been mostly humerous. I am not interested in spam or pop-ups which I detest with a passion it can be risky registering. I guess you have to take the good with the bad. I am sure Fodors will not be as funny as it has been. The true motive is info on travel. I hope this effort will improve the true motive of the board. Happy Travels.

After reading all the above posts, I too am for registration, and already pre-registered. But, I hope, like some of the posters indicated, that it won't ruin the humor and sometimes off-topic but still enjoyable reads I get. The Abaco Community Message Board requires registration, but it actually increases humorous posts. Type in Yahoo and then "Abaco Community Message Board" (ACMB) to see what I mean. The registration will block out the extreme vicious posts which negate everything else. I do hope that the registration won't create a linear, anal retentive-type of uncreative and unspontaneous board which allows people to disagree with others as well. Perhaps, Fodor's can type into ACMB to get a feel for allowing posters to have their cake and eat it too; i.e., fun postings, disagreeing with each other, helpful comments and information, but avoiding the viciousness and four-letter words. Registration, if done properly, could actually increase our creativity. Robert

May I ask a question? I am relatively new to this board but what is the big deal about registering? I mean, I would prefer not to have to for convenience sake, but if you aren't doing anything wrong or starting any trouble, then what's the big deal?

it isn't about freedom at all. Fodors sponsors this board and thus, even though they deny it, has some responsibility for the management of it and the information. If something were to happen that little disclaimer really is very little protection for them. It is their duty to maintain decourum and they do have an investment in their reputation which is soiled by the frequent stalkers and all the misinformed folks and those who have vendettas agains specific places and people - whether real or imagined horrid things happened to them. Freedom you still have. Play by the rules or don't play. It's your choice but then that's the adult way to do things. You have nothing to hide, then no reason not to register. Am optomistic that it will work but reserving judgment. It's a free for all now with someone posting whole threads with different names to sensationalize things and maybe it will make it a bit less convenient to do that.

I love the caribbean on line board. Its funny though, no registration, no nasty posts or name calling. When there is a nasty comment it is quickly deleted, it does't have to get 50 replies before it is noticed. When the comments are nasty they are quite mild compared to the posts I have read here. Its very busy, informative well monitored and very popular board.
It makes you wonder.....Gee maybe the problem isn't with us, I mean people are people, but with the Editors at Fodors. Maybe Fodors should rethink their employees, and hire people that actually monitor this board!
Don't get me wrong I do enjoy this board very much, but I think we all have to suffer registration because of what Danny does not do, that is what is not fair.
