I thought maybe I had been banned

Couldn't get on for a long time. My current password did not work nor did two new registered ones. So I checked the times on all the forums and it appeared no new posts were appearing from anyone else either.

Did anybody else experience this?

It's not just you, the board was down for awhile. A Fodorite in the lounge emailed Katie to ask what's going on and here's her reply:

It's definitely a problem on our end. I've sent emails to our tech crew this afternoon and hope to hear back shortly. I apologize for the disruption; thank you for sending us an email. I hope you're having a good weekend otherwise.

Best,
Katie

Lynn, you were banned for being such a mean-spirited and unhelpful poster. We all complained to the editors and they banned you.

Then we thought we'd give you just one more chance to straighten up and post nice.

Got it?

I too thought perhaps I had been banned! I was trying to think through my recent posts and wondering which had been so controversial! Robin

Lynn,
It's because you don't know how to use a dict object.
I just now figured it out myself.
It's the craziest thing. The world would be a much better place if everyone had at least one dict object experience.

You never know, you give the wrong answer in the lions vs. buffalo question and there goes the access and you have nowhere to go but to wander around the Frommer's site.

Cybor,
I must be missing something. Something more than not knowing how to use a dict object. Should I be embarrassed that I don't even know what a dict object is? Should my husband be even more embarrassed? Isn't this an Oprah episode?

Despite my ignorance I am laughing out loud at this dict object experience you refer to. But don't they say ignorance is bliss?

All this dict object discussion will probably get me banned after all.

No idea what a diet object is.

I do, however know what a dict object is. If you got it, you know it.

Tom - there is a Freudian slip! It isn't a "diet" object, it is a "dict" object - and I haven't a clue what it is either! Robin

Here's our thread in the Lounge about a dict object. All of us who participated thought we had been banned for our comments on this thread:

Well seeing that P_M ruined my fun, I'll tell you.
It's when passwords etc. get spit out.
It's also hashable - who knew.

Pronking! That's perfect. Ha ha.

What a coincidence that I would mention Oprah when the linked thread shows this whole thing started with Oprah. But then, doesn't most everything?

So dict object is when passwords get spit out. Even the definition is worth a snicker.

Momliz, good one about the upgrade. New gizmos on here won't do anything to upgrade the unsophisticated, juvenille sense of humor, though. At least I hope they won't.

What an educational place this is. Oh the things I've learned! For example, this thread was enlightening on grammar, particularly the camel toe. And camels are found in Africa and the Middle East.

Camel toe! That was wonderful - and moose knuckles.

In this thread they talk about goose barnacles:

I was fine when you posted this thread but experienced the problem earlier today for a few hours. Clearing cookies didn't help...

Yes, clearing cookies and temporary files helps when I have problems getting into many places including email.

Maybe the cookies are the "diet object" Tom was referring to.
